Robin's Story
Life
I am a wife and mother of two. Our children are now a whopping 24 and 21, both are now playing for the Minor League Football Team, The Arkansas Bengals. The 24 year old is a wonderful pianist and drummer and sings in the Arkansas Gospel Mass Choir which is Directed by Charles Moore (CD's are sold at Wal-Mart), The 21yr old never meets a stranger and believes everyone has a good heart... He played the trumpet in school. He and his brother makes my heart happy when they decide to meet each other in the music room and play a few tunes. Ah yes, I smile from ear to ear for hours on end. TBone and I take every chance we can get; on beautiful evenings and weekends to run away on the open roads on our motorcycle, leaving all cares behind, sometimes we come home, sometimes we don't. We live in a largely populated area. Our dog is a spoiled Bichon. The cat hides out in the garage. We have deer, chipmunks, squirrels, owls, have spotted an eagle in our back yard, cardinals, robins, blue jays, humming birds and several species of woodpeckers in our back yard of a lovely wooded area which sits on the edge of a small mountain. My husband has been the supervisor of a Radiology Department for quite sometime now. Several years ago my sons and I had a near-fatal accident 4 hours from home on our way to Texas. To look at what was left of the car one would think no one survived. The boys were fine. I however had a long road to travel for complete recovery. For a few hours I was not able to respond to those around me, there was nothing wrong with my hearing nor my mind. I made my peace with God and told Him I was "ready to go", moments later after hearing my precious sons praying in my ears and making promises of walking the dog, and doing anything I wanted them to, I asked God if I could "take it back" and made the request to stay a while longer to complete the raising of the boys. Thankfully, He granted me this request. When I awoke and days later regained strength, I reminded the boys of "promises made"...were they ever surprised that I actually heard all that was said!
Once I recovered, I knew I had to do what I always dreamed of doing, therefore; I fulfilled a dream and returned to college and completed my Assoc. in Science in Business Admin. and In Dec of 2009 I graduated from College of Clinical Pastoral Supervision & Psychotherapy to obtain 1600 clinical hrs. to obtain Chaplain Certification and in Feb of 2010 I rec'd certification training and membership into the International Conference of Police Chaplains. I am now working as a Contract Associate Chaplain for three area hospitals and love every minute I am able to serve as well as working as a Contract Bookkeeper from my home.
I credit the many teachers from my past helped me through my educational journeys. Had it not been for them, I would not be where I am today, everyone of them were excellent instructors. I remember Mrs. Mixon reading in a soft low tone, which helped me to have an interest in reading at a very early age. I'll always remember Mrs. Zimmerman for telling me to "Hang in there girl, you'll get those complicated math problems soon enough!" And eventually I did. Mr. Prenzler taught me how to enjoy the "weather" when it came on the 10 o'clock news. I enjoyed Mrs. Henderson's teaching style and must say, I looked forward to her class every day! She had a grand sense of humor, why, I remember her one rainy day, she pointed out a few people in the room who wore flip flops and said, "I think that is the smartest shoe anyone could wear on a day like this!" At first no one was sure how to take this, so we sat for a moment and waited, she said, "No, ya'll are taking me wrong, this is smart! If you dont wear big shoes there is less mess to clean up!" Wow! Brilliant! Coach Stark taught with such ease that everyone in his class was sure to pass with high grades...he even looked the other way if we arrived seconds after the bell rang;) Mrs. Duckett, that Mrs. Duckett was the best substitute teacher ever! Everyone loved her. And I must give credit where credit is due to my wonderful Office Education Assocication Teacher; Mrs. Peggy Bullard. Because of her wit and wisdom I became one of the best Administrative Secretaries the hospital in this area ever had and was voted Employee of the month. I am well organized, answer phones with a professional manner, I can run an office in the absence of the manager, I know how to protect my boss when he or she needs to get their work done and should not be disturbed. Yes, Mrs. Bullard, taught me how to handle the office in every way imaginable. Thank you Mrs. Bullard! I love you! Oh how I will never forget my fingers getting all tangled up in the keys of the old fashioned type writers of Mrs. Kathy Bowers typing class. However, I am a fast, and accurate typist because of her. I know I have done well on my jobs and it is because of teachers who have patience with students like me that have days when my fingers just do not want to move, Mrs. Kathy, you were the best typing cheerleader I have ever known! Kudos to you! And I do believe we will all forever remember Mrs. Ada Kirk; and her love for English; at the end of my 9th grade year she called me out of one of my classes, and said, "Robin, dear Robin, next year I have signed you up for college English, you are too smart to not do this ok? OK!" She smiled and pranced on down the hallway leaving me standing there. That was precious Mrs. Kirk, when she saw potential, she didn't leave room for fear and would not give you a chance to say no. Being an extremely shy student I had a difficult time utilizing my skills and talents in school...I do so appreciate her for taking the time to see something in me that many did not see, she truly had a gift. Her love for children, saving paper, colorful clothing, and oh the jewelry that matched. I'll never forget one class day she asked, "Can anyone in here show me how to break dance?" So Toni N. gladly arose from her seat and showed her. She clapped her hands and thanked her profusely. She was always interested in whatever the students were interested in. I absolutely loved that little lady. Mrs. Kirk, our "Serendipity Lady," was my hero, as a matter-of-fact, because of all of these wonderful heroes I've mentioned, I've learned to practice these skills with others like me ~ and focus on the "diamonds in the hidden places" and help wash away the uncertainty that may be laying on the surface.
Other wonderful heroes in my life are my family; everyone of them. I'd li...Expand for more
ke to mention a few; My mom has been my rock. When I was recovering from the accident, she would come to my house, get me up and say, "You are walking girl!" She would stand at the foot of my bed and pray, call me on the phone and speak words of encouragement. Yes, mom is my hero. My Aunt and Uncle, Les & Pansy Crawford, I lovingly call them Uncle and Aunt Pastors, as they were my Pastors in Cuero for many years. Their insight of the Word is phenominal, their love for the Lord is everlasting and their love for me is without question. My wonderful May family who lost their son. They have gracefully grieved, teaching us that when a Soldier who has been awarded many medals dies with honor and dignity, we hold our heads up, shoulders back and think on the good memories. My other sister, Tami, who was handicapped by a terrible accident, almost one year to the day after my accident, has showed us a that it is possible that a good sense of humor can help to heal broken bones and a broken heart, this helps to basically get her through each day...minute by minute. My two sons; Tyler and Preston; display strength, character and love their mom, dad and God every day of their lives. Last but not least the most important heroes are my husband Tbone the love of my life since I was 14, supports anything I wish to do and makes all my dreams come true, and ... Jesus ~ He's so cool!
Using the Classmates' "Story Wizard" I answered questions asked and the following are the answers I came up with:
I always wanted to be a Nurse when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, I probably would have been a good nurse, but I didn't go with that idea. Instead, I have spent the past ten years or so working in a the hosptial. First in Accounting, Human Resource, Admin. Assist to the Nursing Director and now a Chaplain..
My favorite way to relax is to take a walk, or to take a drive by myself with the sunroof open, of course - weather must permit, mostly riding on the back of the motorcycle and soak in God's creations and thank Him for His goodness and mercies.
If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have a Day timer, Starbucks vinte skinny late w/triple shot, and bag of grapes and nuts to munch on to be able to deal with my day-to-day work load.
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is all the girls from V.O.E., because not only did we share "school experiences" but "life experiences" as well. These were friendships we had since Jr. High, and some since grade school. There are also a couple of other girls I'd like to find from grade school, Jenny Boyd, and Cynthia Lowrey. These two girls left an impact on my mind, in two different ways. Jenny was extremely intelligent, in Hunt Elementary. I remember admiring how smart she was in 3rd grade and wishing I could "make grades like her." Then one day, she up and moved away and I never got to talk to her again to tell her how smart I thought she was. The other person was Cynthia. She used to draw some of the most beautiful pictures of horses free handed, I believe we were in sixth grade. I found some of those sketches a few years ago, and I'm telling you, those were some good sketches for such a young child!
What sports am I obsessed with? Awe, right now, I am obsessed with The Arkansas Bengals. I am going to love watching my sons play this season. I've always watched all sports, as these boys were into all sports as well.
If I could improve my home, I'd remodel the master bath and add on a larger pic nic area with fountains. My dream home would be a log home near a lake.
What have I learned from my sons? I have learned not to take life so seriously.
If I won $100 million, I'd give a portion of it to my family, then spend the rest on paying off debts, donate to homeless shelters, my church and women's and childrens' shelters.
My current age is 48. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be retired and traveling the world. I was so completely wrong!.
My best friend would tell you I'm hilarious and outgoing, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as shy.
A trophy I received? Lets see; I received, a trophy was when I was 17, the summer of 1981 I attended Lost Pines Youth Camp and received Camp Queen. Other achievements while in school Valerie Hill - Verner and I were awarded first place in V.O.E. for the Scrap booking Award. In 2000 I received Employee of the Month award for the hospital where I worked.
If I had one do-over throughout my school years, I would be more involved in school activities and do my best not to appear so shy. Being shy is such a hard thing to conquer at a young age.
My oldest friend is Dionis Mueller-Winsauer. We met one morning in 9th grade before a school assembly meeting, she sat beside me in the gym and asked, "So, where are you going for lunch?" My answer, "To my Granny's house." She asked if she could go, my granny had lunch ready for us every day, and we have been friends ever since.
I am not sure what would surprise everyone at my high school class reunion I would hope that my personality of loving deeply and caring genuinely for everyone I come in contact with is not a surprise to anyone at all. I love hearing "stories" and am interested in others. I would hope the focus is not on me at all.
My first job was at Buchel Bank & Trust, where I got paid two dollars and something to be a Bookkeeper. What I remember most about it is filing checks all day long. That's it. Sorting, Copying, then filing checks all day long.
I will forever remember going to all of the Cuero Gobbler Football games. The7th & 8th grade and JV Games on Thursday nights, and High School games. These games were something this small town girl looked forward to each and every week. Watching the turkey mascot dance up and down the line was interesting to see. And I so enjoyed playing Powder Puff Football when it came time for the girls to get out on the field and show their stuff! Oh yes, and those guys, oh how the guys showed us how they could cheer for us as we played as well. Yes, I'll never ever, forget my hometown Cuero Gobbler High School. To this day, no matter where I am, I log on to the Gobbler Radio to hear what the hometown Gobblers are up to.
Going home once in a while feels so good ~ every time I visit I must have a K&N Rootbeer mug, A BBQ station sandwich, Smoliks Dried sausage, Dairy Queen DQ Dude, Whata Burger B.O.B. and McAlister Doughnuts...yes, I'm missing my hometown and the delicious foot right about now...
