Robin's Story

Life After graduating in '88, I moved to Vancouver for about 5 years, then eventually moved to Ontario (1994) for nursing school. I graduated as an RN in 1997, moved back to Vernon for a couple of years, and in September 1999, moved down to South Texas, USA to pursue my nursing career full-time (and with job security!!!). I worked as a Labor & Delivery nurse for 3 years in a smaller town, but in summer 2002, I moved to Corpus Christi (on the Gulf of Mexico) and began work as a circulating nurse in the OR at a Children's hospital. I love it. This hospital is well renowned and respected in South Texas, and does everything from tonsillectomies to transplant surgeries. Eventually, I'd like to possibly move back to, or closer to, Canada. For now, I'm spending time with my boyfriend, Malcolm, and my 3 English Bulldogs...they're the best! I've been recently keeping quite busy as I bought a house this past summer (2003) and we're busy settling in and fixing things up. But I'd love to hear from any old friends from VSS, Fulton, Seaton, etc...anywhere in Vernon, or beyond. Would love to hear from friends in Ontario, Quebec, etc. also. That's my life... School I wish I had taken to heart what my parents repeatedly told me: "These are the best years of your life...enjoy them." Although I've had many great times and good years since, I really enjoyed my youth (despite all the grief at times). I truly enjoy bettering myself and increas...Expand for more
ing my knowledge. Oh, that I wish I'd realized that in high school...I could have had much better grades! Hello to all my school friends and peers... College I truly enjoyed my college years...although most of that time was spent catching up on my youth after years in a long-term relationship. Yes, I had FUN! But I also did quite well in school and used that time to redevelop relationships with relatives that I hadn't seen in a long time, especially my Grandparents. It truly was a special time in my life! Workplace Well, since graduating as an RN, I've changed my specialty a couple of times, and have truly enjoyed all aspects that I've become involved in. First, there was working with the physically handicapped. Of course that was rewarding, and I met several amazing people whom I admire greatly for their courage and perserverance. Next was Labor & Delivery (Obstetrics). This was an amazing experience...and very emotional at times. Hard work, but almost always a happy ending (which isn't always the case in my line of work). Now I'm working as an OR nurse in a children's hospital. This is where I hope that I'll be happy to stay. So far it is a fabulous place and just the right pace. If my family lineage is any indication, this just might be the specialty for me...I have numerous aunts and cousins who have been OR nurses for years. If I ever decided to change however, I'd maybe go into education or linguistics next time?
