Robin's Story

01 November 2010 update: No longer maintaining my info here in Classmates.com. I'm posting everything to Facebook these days. So, check out my info there. Robin 10 March 2010 Update: Gee, I'm way behind here. Another grandson has been added to our family: Brodie Micheal Nash was born Oct 26, 2009 to Jared and Andrea. We now have four grandsons! Sad news to share is that Bruce and his wife, Stacy, are getting a divorce. It's hard seeing your own kids go through what you went through. On the health front, chemo continues for me. Every 3 weeks roughly. It's keeping the cancer at bay, so it's doing its job, and I'll continue to do mine. That's about it for now. I've just joined Facebook and will be uploading photos and such over there soon. -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- 02 March 2009 Update: Well, grandson number three was born today. Garrett was born in Prineville this morning, weighing in at a whopping 9 lbs 8 oz! Bruce, Stacy and Owen are enjoying their newest family member. Will post pictures soon. :-) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 09-Jan-2009 Update It's been quite awhile since I last updated my profile. Life activities have keep me busy. So, here's a quick update: - Had a great 2008 holiday season with all my kids/grandkids over. Boy, are those two little guys growing. Owen is 28 months and Zach is 19 months. I just love spoiling them whenever they come to visit! My sons all live in Prineville, so they're not far away and stop by often. - Still working for the Forest Service. Just received my 30 year certificate. Can't fully retire until I'm 55, so have a few more years to put in. I'm working virtually from home, which really saves on driving and gas. I'm a Web Specialist for OR/WA, and still doing Web Manager assignments on the national incident team. Went on a couple of fires last summer in California in Lake Isabella and Quincy. - As for my health, I'm still battling my cancer and will forever I guess unless a cure is found. But I don't let it stop me from enjoying my life. I generally lose my hair in the fall/winter and it grows back in the spring/summer. With the latest treatments I've had, it hasn't started falling out yet. But I'm sure it's going to happen. Hey, whatever it takes to fight this cancer, I'll do. And if it means I lose my hair for awhile, then so be it. Less shampoo to use, and I don't have to worry about messing up my hair when I wear hats/caps. :-) My spirit is still very positive, and faith strong. My husband is awesome and takes great care of me. Pampers me really. I do have a great support system from all my family and friends. Best wishes to all in 2009. I'll update my photos soon. Take care, Robin :-) Life Update 31-May-2007: Another grandson has been added to my family! Jared and Andrea welcomed their first child, Zachary James, on 22-May-2007, in Prineville. The new family is doing great. Update 20-Oct-2006: Well, looks like my cancer has metastasized again. I'm back on chemo, with the possibility of surgery down the road; maybe no surgery at all if the chemo knocks out the tumors. I'm working from home these days when the chemo doesn't wipe me out. My spirits are still high and keeping a very positive attitude that the new chemo treatment will take care of the tumors. I'm losing my hair again, but hey, been there-done that before, so not too upsetting to me. Besides, I still have wigs from before, and it's stocking cap weather soon, so I've got it covered. :-) I am a Grandma now!! :-) Bruce and Stacy had their baby boy, Owen, on Aug 28th in Prineville. I've posted a picture of Bruce and Owen. I did get out on two fire assignments this summer: one in Minnesota and one in southeastern Washington. The Minnesota fire was very interesting as the fire fighters had to be canoed into to the fires. That's all for now. Robin Old stuff: Married Jan 1980 to John Nash. Have three sons Bruce, Jared and Kyle. Miscarried a daughter Casi. Divorced in 1995. I attended all of my sons' sporting events, from t-ball, to soccer, to football, basketball, baseball and NJROTC drill team competitions. J...Expand for more
ust check out all the 8mm tapes I have!! One of these days (maybe in my retirement years?) I'll have to convert them to DVDs. Being a mom has been the most rewarding experience of my life. The beginning of 2003 didn't start off good for me. I found out in January that I had colon cancer. I immediately had surgery and followed with chemotherapy for six months. I lost my blonde hair but it came back...brown. I remarried in Sep 2003 to Jay Alway. We'd been together since my divorce and finally decided to make it legal. He's absolutely the best husband I could imagine! :-) In May 2004, my oldest son Bruce married Stacy Struck (of Terrebonne). In August 2005, my middle son Jared married his high school sweetheart, Andrea Meadows. My youngest son, Kyle, is graduated from high school in 2006, and is working for his uncle Ernie building homes. Things were going along well for me until October 2004 when doctors found that the cancer had come back. I had surgery and once again chemotherapy treatments. I continued with chemo until May 2006 when the doctor decided to give my body a bit of a break from the 18 months of treatment that I'd been receiving. Everything was looking good. I work at the Forest Service office in Prineville...still. Started between my junior and senior year of high school. I'm one of the fortunate few that have managed to move up the government ladder without having to transferring around the country. I've been in the computer field pretty much my whole career and am doing web work these days. I'm also the web manager on a national incident management team that goes to fires, hurricanes, disasters, etc. I've been on several fires (OR/WA/MT/NV/CA/NM/MN) and was in the gulf coast area for Hurricane Ivan in Sept 2004. Summer of 2006 is just beginning. My youngest, Kyle, graduated from Crook County in June, and moved out. I think the empty nest syndrome will hit me soon. My stepson, Greg, graduated from OSU with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. And I'm going to be a grandma in September! Oh my goodness....grandma Robin. I'm waiting for my first fire assignment for the year. In the meantime, I'll keep working in my garden and enjoying the summer. :-) Workplace I started working for the Forest Service in June 1978 after being referred for the job by Ms. Stafford. What started out as a part-time clerk job turned into a full-time job, and later into a career. I worked as a clerk-typist on the Prineville Ranger District on the Ochoco National Forest. I was a receptionist and data transcriber as well. In November 1981, I transferred from the ranger district into the Supervisor's Office/forest headquarters (which at the time was in the north half of the current Post Office). I was a computer assistant, then computer operator, then computer specialist. My duties have ranged from basic data entry and some simple Basic programming, to systems administration, database administration (Oracle), and web management. A few years ago, the region reorganized computer operations and I became a Web Tools specialist. My position is virtual, so I can work from anywhere (that has a network connection to the Forest Service anyway). During my down times from chemo treatments, I was able to work from home and not have to take alot of time off work. The Ochoco NF Supervisor's office moved from the building we shared with the Post Office and into a new building built on the site of the old drive-in theater. That's where I work today. My window looks out to the east, towards Ochoco Lake. In June 2002, I also took on a role of web manager for a fire management team. Actually, it's a national incident management team, as we go to incidents besides just fires. The team I'm on were involved with the recovery efforts at the World Trade Center after 9/11. We were also involved with the Columbia shuttle recovery in February-March 2003 in Corsicana, Texas. And twice to hurricane support (Hurricane Ivan in Alabama, Sep 2004, and Hurricane Rite in Texas, Sep 2005). I enjoy the 2-3 weeks assignments we go, camping out and working long hours. The OT is great!
