Baritone
Native Texan, Robin Rice is a remarkable young baritone who brings intelligence, taste, and a vibrant instrument to concert platforms and the operatic stage.
An experienced recitalist, Dr. Rice has captured hearts with his sensitive interpretations of art song literature. A young specialist in the French repertoire, Robin Rice became an honored participant under Elly Ameling, Gerard Souzay, and Dalton Baldwin at the Cleveland Art Song Festival. In 1993, he won the Carolyn Brice Award in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Artist Award Competition. He has also performed the world premieres of Reynolds' The Hollow Men, Rytel's Blake Songs, and DmitrievÂs R.O.S. In 1996, he was a recitalist with Michael Pilkington for the national convention of the Association of Teachers of Singing in Bournemouth, England. Most recently, he appeared as a soloist with the Northern Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in Teplice, Czech Republic with John Apeitos of the Athens, Greece Radio Symphony conducting.
Robin RiceÂs operatic repertoire spans such diverse roles as MozartÂs Count Almaviva (THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO) and the joyous Papageno (THE MAGIC FLUTE), to Lee HoibyÂs, Vernon in SUMMER AND SMOKE.
Robin Rice has already achieved national recognition as a teacher of voice. He is active as a Master Teacher throughout the United States and Europe. Robin Rice received his Bachelor of Music degree from Baylor University, and his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. In addition, he has studied at the Mannes College of Music in New York City and the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria.
Rice is a highly acclaimed and active teacher. He has taught Master Classes internationally and in the USA. Venues include: Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colon (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Castellina in Chianti Vocal Workshop (Tuscany, Italy), Cullasaja Vocal Workshop (North Carolina), University of Colorado at Boulder, Rice University, Saint Mary¿s College of Notre Dame, University of Utah, Emory and Henry College, Hastings College and Baylor University. Dr. Rice has been a guest Vocal Coach for the Utah Opera¿s Young Artist Apprentice Program, the San Diego Opera Ensemble and Florida Grand Opera's Young Artist Apprentice Programs. Rice's students are performing on major stages in the United States, Europe and Asia. Dr. Rice recently returned from teaching at the Amalfi Coast Music Program this summer in Vietri sul Mare, Italy. He also recently taught a series of Master Classes at Tung-hay University, Taipei Municipal University of Education and National Sun, Yet-sen University in Taiwan, R.O.C.
Dr. Rice currently resides in the greater Columbus, Ohio area where he is an Associate Professor of voice at The Ohio State University.
