Robin's Story

Hi everyone! Here's 37 yrs in a run-on paragraph. Forgive me, Miss Ruddle, my Journalism teacher... wherever you are! I have fond memories of Northwood High School, school plays, student government, prom at Indian Spring with Rare Earth, and Bill Deal and the Rhondels, loved going to home and away football and basketball games. Pizza at Pop's and Mike's, burgers at Hot Shoppe Jr, hanging in downtown Silver Spring and at Wheaton Plaza. Hot Shoppes on a Saturday night. Spinning the latest 45's at the record store at the Plaza to check them out and then not buying them...Did anyone else do this? After Northwood, I went to U of MD in College Park, which I loved. I still go to all the football and basketball games there, to this day! I commuted the first year in exchange for a '68 Mustang from my folks. What a great deal! My first accident was with classmates Eddie Jaffe and Mark Feigenson! -- how funny! I then lived at the SDT house on campus for the next 3 years. Was involved in student government there as well. Early 70's on campus was a radical departure from the high school years. Started working in Democratic politics on state and local level. From there, I went to law school at the Univ of Baltimore. While there I worked for the Attorney General's Office in the Consumer Protection Div. and really enjoyed that. Helping people, writing legislation, lobbying in Annapolis and on the hill -- all a thrill. Also ran (lost)for delegate to the Democratic Convention in "76. After graduation I moved back to Montgomery Cou...Expand for more
nty and I married a young lawyer from Ohio who had settled in the area. We were very ambitious little yuppies! I worked for a couple of "beltway bandits" and then became a full time mom when my daughter was born. Helped husband market his firm & edited their newsletter (thanks again, Miss Ruddle). Continued being very involved in local Democratic politics and also did a lot of volunteer work and fundraising for various groups. Everything from book fairs to black tie galas. Fast forward, got separated and divorced after husband was way too "friendly" and with one of his employees. All the while doing the mom thing, the soccer mom thing, basketball mom, volleyball mom, track and field mom, and even room mother...and everything else a full time mom does. Also was an agent for Coldwell Banker while the kids were in school and worked the wholesale end of a accessory business. I switched to selling accessories retail about 10 yrs ago. I guess my left brain and my right brain never really reconciled. I still love accessories and now I help people decorate themselves! I travel to do juried shows and do local shows as well. Like fundraiser bazaars for private schools, churches, synagogues. My daughter graduated from Tulane Univ. and my son is attending college in Boston. I remarried 9 years ago and still live in the area. I've always loved Washington and always will. I love to travel, but I can't imagine living anywhere else! Definitely an East Coast girl! Thanks to everyone that posted detailed stories--Great to read!
