Robin's Story
Military
Joined the Navy out of high school. After boot camp, and navigation school, I was assigned to the pre-commissioning crew of the USS SPRUANCE (DD-963). I left active duty at the rank of Quartermaster 2nd Class. I reenlisted in 1982 as an Officer Candidate 3rd Class while attending UW-W. I was commissioned an ensign in 1983 upon graduation and was assigned to the Navy's Nuclear Power School in Orlando, FL. In 1988 I left active duty and began drilling as a reservist at the Milwaukee Navy Reserve Readiness Center. At the Center I was the Repair Officer, but my reserve assignment was Communications Officer for the Commander of Amphibious Group 2. I then transferred to the Baltimore Reserve Center. I was assigned to the Naval Control of Shipping Office as a convoy officer.

I married and re-enlisted in the Navy to teach physics at the Naval Nuclear Power School. I attended graduate school at the University of Central Florida from 84 to 88.
I briefly went to work with the Defense Mapping Agency, Hydrographic Office as a Navigation Scientist. Late in the year, I got a job with the Naval Space Surveillance Center, where I worked until they were decommissioned in 1993. I was transferred to the Naval Space Command until 1996 when I got a new job at the Naval Research Laboratory. I worked there until I retired in 2012. I returned to work as a consultant until 2016. I've been retired except for the occasional stint as an adjunct professor at the University of Mary Washington teaching physics and astronomy.
I have finally finished my research and earned my Master of Science degree in physics from the University of Virginia with an official graduation date now set for August 2025.
