Robyn's Story

Life Well, as I mentioned in my school bio, my sister and I moved to Texas 6 days after graduation. I went to the University of North Texas for about a year and a half, but my grades weren't all that great, so I left. AFter that, I joined the military. (see my military bio for that story). After I got out of the military, I did a some traveling and even ended up in PA for a couple of months. My boyfriend (who is now my husband) was deployed at the time, so when he came home, I moved back to MS. Then we got married. Two months after our wedding, I had another child. In March 2001, we moved to Jacksonville, Florida. Actually we lived in Middleburg, which is about 20 minutes south of JAX. We lived there for 3 years, then moved back to Gulfport, MS. So now, here we are, back in MS, but not by choice. My husband is still on active duty and in it for the long haul and Gulfport is one of two places that he can be stationed at right now. But it's fun. Mississippi grows on you after a while. So it's ok, because it's also closer to home for us. School What can I say, high school was great. I think about kids now-a-days and it's rough. Where I live, now, they're selling drugs, have metal detectors, etc, in the schools. It's disgusting!!!! My oldest child is in Kindergarten right now and I'm afraid for him. I'm so glad we didn't have any of that when we were in school and I hope it hasn't gotten to that point. Anyway, what I remember most is all the memories I made senior year. The trips to New York every year to see the broadway shows, the trip to Spain, and the school musicals. But most of all, I enjoyed hanging out with my friends, before, during and after school. It was definitely a fun time and I wouldn't change it for the world. College I actually went to college twice. The first time was right after we moved to Texas. I went to University of North Texas for a year and a half. To be totally honest, my grades weren't all that great, so I left and joined the military. The second time around, I was ready for it and had a completely different attitude toward school and did much better. While we were living in Florida, I went to school at the University of Phoenix in Jacksonville. That's where I earned my BS in Business Management. What an experience that was. Not only was I considered a full time student, but I also worke...Expand for more
d full time and I'm a full time wife and mother. Ugh!!! It was rough but we all survived and it was worth it in the end. The only thing I can say about UOP is papers and presentations!!!! :) Workplace After I left the military, I took about a year off from working because I traveled between MS, PA and TX. I also got married and had a second baby. But by 2001 I was back in the swing of things and working for Kelly Services. I started in Gulfport, MS at their office, placing substitute teachers. When we moved to Florida I continued with the same job. After 9/11/01, business wasn't all that great, so I lost that job. Luckily I was able to stay with Kelly Services but went to a job at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida. I stayed there for the next 2 1/2 years, until we returned to MS. When we got back to MS, I took 6 months off and then got another job with Cingular Wireless. I am a customer service rep at their call center in Ocean Springs, MS. So far it's ok. I'm still in training, so I really can't say too much else. Military Where do I start. After I was suspended from UNT (academically, that is....) I had to get a full-time job, so I joined the military. I was a construction mechanic for the US Navy from 1995-2000. During that time, I literally went around the world and back. I started off with boot camp in Great Lakes, IL, then went to school in Port Hueneme, CA. In July 1995, I joined my battalion in Rota, Spain. (and to my friends who understand this, no, I didn't get to have my churros y chocolate). We came home to Gulfport, MS right before Thanksgiving that year and spent 7 months at home. Next I was off to Guam. I spent about 3 weeks there and went with a small group to Cambodia to help drill water wells. Actually I was there for the communications part of it, but I did receive the water well training. We were only there for 6 weeks and returned back to Guam. Jan 1997 we came back home to MS for 7 more months. In August, we left for Rota, Spain again. That's when I went to Bosnia. What a great time. (no, seriously. It's all about the people you hang out with.) When we came back from Bosnia in March 1998, I remained in Gulfport for the rest of my time. I was supposed to go to San Diego, CA, but couldn't because I was pregnant. But it was better that way. Then in Jan 2000 I got out because my time was up.
