clarence rodger's Story

I transfered to Beaumont high school in Beaumont, calif from Phineas banning high school in Wilmington, calif in October 1965 and graduated from Beaumont high in june 1966 and enlisted in the u.s. army airborne infantry and fought in south viet nam with the 173rd airborne brigade infantry from feb 1967 to feb 1968. our brigade received the presidential unit citation for hunting down and decimating numerous north Vietnamese regular regiments in our November 1967 DAK TO central highlands campaigns!!!. I returned to the 82nd airborne division at fort bragg, nc and was discharged from fort bragg in june 1969. I was in construction for over four years in the los Angeles area and decided to join the u.s. coast guard in sep 1974.my first assignment was to the coast guard loran station at yap island which is in Micronesia. I served onboard the cutters basswood(wlb 388) in guam, the venturous(wmec 625) in terminal island, calif and commissioned the cutter thetis(wmec 910) in key west, Florida as the chief boatswain's mate.while ashore I inspected u.s. and foreign flagged vessels for compliance with all u.s. maritime laws and inspected u.s. waterfront facilities while stationed at the coast guard marine safety office long beach, Calif. I was also a pollution investigator for three years in the los angeles/long beach harbor areas holding spillers responsible for clean-up costs and heavy federal civil penalties.my cases generated over $500,000.00 in federal civil penalties. I was in charge of waterfront facilities port security during the 1984 Olympics; the commercial facilities supervisors and ship owners helped the U.S.. coast guard keep the LA/L...Expand for more
B harbor areas free of any threat incidents; the coast guard was assisted by the LAPD, LA county Sherrifs reserve officers and by numerous officers from other agencies. I also worked and supervised the coast guard buoy depot at the naval station Guam twice where I was also a small arms instructor.during my second tour in guam; I briefly inspected ships at the coast guard marine safety office in apra harbor helping foreign flagged crews learn more about u.s. maritime laws.I also worked with the U.S. Navy on many minor incidents that were threatening Apra harbor.I was promoted to chief in may of 1987 in Guam. after commissioning the cutter thetis; my last job in boston, ma was as chief of security at the coast guard support center Boston in the north end and I retired on deccember 31, 1991. after working a few minor jobs; I was hired by speedy muffler king( which is a Canadian company) and I worked on their mobile brake tester as the manager at malls and I also acted as an assistant manager in most Boston area shops when the regular managers were on vacation or were sick. in their Dedham shop; I helped that staff achieve over a million dollars of sales each year for five straight years working at the counter as a customer service rep and helping the technicians any time they needed help with their work I moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2005 where I worked in the supermarket slot route casinos for over eight years and met some of the most generous people from all over the world!!! I retired in the summer of 2013 because of some of my V.A. rated disabilities. with the help of our heavenly father; I hope all of your goals and dreams came true!!!
