Rodnie's Story
Life
As a kid I lived in Vernon, Tx. My High School years were spent in Granite, Ok. Joined the Army in 1979. Took basic training at Ft. McClellan, Alabama. I graduated Military Police School in May of that year. June 1979, I attended the Defense Language Institute/ Foreign Language Center, at the Presidio of Monterey, California where I learned the German language. In December of 1979, I found myself at Kregsfeld Army Depot with the 558th MP Co in Germany. I ETS'd from there in January of 1982.
I moved back to Vernon, Tx. I attended Vernon Regional Junior College and Midwestern State University. I received a degree in 1987. I joined the Oklahoma Army National Guard, 1/171 FA, in 1984. My first son was born in 1985. I started employment with North Texas State Hospital in 1987. It's the only Maximum Security Sta...Expand for more
te Mental hospital in Texas. It houses the criminally insane and the manifestly dangerous. In 1992 my second son was born.
After achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant in the National Guard, I attended Officers Candidate School and was commisioned 2nd Lt. in 1994. I attended Officers Basic Course (FA) at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. I was assigned to several armories in Southwestern Oklahoma. Altus, Hollis, Mangum and Clinton. During my time in "the guard", I spent AT's in Florida and Michigan. In 2002, the 1/171 FA was activated. I was assigned to a 100 man unit that was sent to Ft. Carson, CO. I was the Operations Officer. After almost a year there, we were deactivated and returned home. I retired from the Oklahoma Army National Guard in 2003.
I am still employed at NTSH as the Training Officer for the Security Department.
