Roger's Story
Life
I live in Scottsdale, Arizona (too much beach, not enough water), but my wife (Denise) is an Arizona native and loves the warmth. I have compromised, for now. When the kids graduate high-school I may immigrate to New Zealand.
I love to sail and travel. We have two children, Brittany and Dalton. We have two dogs; Indy, a Yorkshire Terrier and Ginger a golden lab. The two rabbits escaped into the neighborhood and we have not spotted them in quite some time.
College
I have finished my fourth (likely final) phase in my college "career". Law school was very different and difficult to finish while working full-time.
The first phase was at North Idaho College. I went there to wrestle, ended up having a lot of fun, and graduated with an Associates degree in Psychology (of all things). Thankfully, one of my (favorite) instructors made me see the light, with regard to a career choice (I thought I would go into advertising).
The second phase started eight years after the first ended. After eight years active duty military, I moved to Arizona to complete my B.S. degree (which was to have been in Electrical Engineering). But, working 50+ hours per week, a full-time (18+ hours) school schedule, and becoming a parent, did not make for the environment that I could succeed at all things. So, I switched to my other interest--business.
The third phase was my MBA (at Arizona State University). I enjoyed this the most because I had excellent instructors and had several years of working experience. My peers were professionals and were there to get the most out of it. I now have several friends, and even our business attorney, from that phase.
Last phase was law school. That education was very valuable in running my fiduciary practice. Our office is in Glendale, AZ and we plan to open another office in the east valley (Phoenix metro area).
Workplace
I have worked in several industries. My current job is challenging and gives me the opportunity to learn something useful (in my own life) every day.

r a private fiduciary firm. We administer trust and probate estates and provide guardianship and conservatorship services. The people I work with are very professional and ethical.
If I could be doing anything I wanted--I would be the captain of a sailing yacht (for vacation charter), or the captain of a racing yacht.
Maybe when I "retire"...
Military
I joined the Army for the college fund and bonus they offered. I did not have the money to continue in school, nor did I really know what I wanted to do. I figured the military would provide the means and the time to think--it did.
I was a paratrooper and an Infantryman. The recruiter set me up with what I told him I wanted "The most money, in the least amount of time." It was very difficult, but I made the most of it.
I made E-6 (Staff Sergeant) in 49 months. I traveled all over the world. Deployed to Grenada in 1983 and helped capture the General of the P.R.A (Hudson Austin). I earned a Combat Infantryman's Badge (CIB) and many other awards.
I maxed (300 points) every Physical Fitness test, during my eight years active duty. I went to a lot of schools. The toughest was the Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape (S.E.R.E.) Instructor school, put on by the Special Operations Command (SOC).
Anyway, I did learn a lot about leadership and myself--in ways that I do not think I ever would have--if I had not been in the military.
Even though it was (is) difficult and dangerous, I want my son to enlist (SEALs preferably).
It is not for everyone and I do not think women should be deployed to hostile theatres. I do believe women should be allowed to serve, but from my experience, it would be best if they were in all women units. There is just too much harassment, resentment, etc.
Airborne, All the Way!
(I can say silly things like that now and not even be embarrassed--guess they brainwashed me very well, ha! ha!)
Attended the 40 year high school reunion of Lakeland High School - Class of 1979 in Coeur d' Alene, Hauser Lake, and Spirit Lake, ID. It was great seeing old friends and catching up.
