Roger's Story

Aloha, From Paul JH in 1960 went to Blair until 1963, then Umd. until 1967. Nice to get past teenage confusion. Married Carole Sherman from Blair and Md. in 1968, the same year I started night law school at Georgetown, while I worked for IRS during the day. Carole got me to move to Hawaii where she helped me buy the same house I am in 35 years later; and still in the Law firm, where I'm now the most senior partner of 40 partners and 30 associates. Carole and I divorced and she left Hawaii in 1974. I was a bachelor for almost 10 years, traveling around Asia and the mainland US for business. In 1983, I married the beautiful and greatly understanding Barbara Kirk. Within 2 years, I turned 40, my boss quit and I had to take over as head of our Tax Dept, and we had a child. Welcome to the world of responsibility. Now at 64, I'm the most senior partner in the firm, working less and involved in lots of community service, spiritual projects. I've also reopened up my business activities in China, and expect to spend some more time there in the coming years. Also, Hawaii is the US Dept of Energy demonstration site for alternative ...Expand for more
energy, so we're doing a lot of work in this area as its just beginning to develop. My 2 girls are growing up. The oldest, Marisa is graduating from Columbia U's masters program in Social Policy in May and taking a job in DC at the Off of Ed, in the White House Fellowship program. (Returning to the scene of my crimes.) Rachel is finishing her Jr. year at Pacific U outside of Portland, and may stay in the Northwest. Hawaii is a fabulous place to live, if you like it. We're the most geographically isolated land group in the world. So generally, people who move here either love it or hate it. Well 'nough. Despite being very happy to be alive and living in paradise, I, as I'm sure most of you, remember with some fondness those great days of being a kid in DC. I do get back once or twice a year and maybe more often and for longer if Marisa stays there for awhile. (One thing about raising kids in Hi, its often hard to get them to move back home after school.) Would love to hear how anyone is doing, and look forward to reconnections with those of you, even if you and I will look very strange and funny. with fondest aloha, Roger
