Roger's Story
Life
Married with children -3 - all over 30. 4 granddaughters. Cathy and I are living in San Antonio, TX. (Since 1998).
After a long career with Eastern Airlines in Orlando (in 1966) then Miami (in 1984), where I worked in the training department in the Eastern headquarters building at the Miami airport authoring computer-based training. This was the early CBT running on IBM mainframes. After a year or so, I moved to EAL’s Doral SystemOne computer center and entered the world of geekdom. SystemOne survived the Eastern Airlines bankruptcy and eventually sold to EDS (Electronic Data Systems). I transferred to San Antonio in 1998 to a small EDS account with a company that owned and operated about 40 small railroads. We managed servers at their headquarters and at about 20 railroad locations...Expand for more
in the U.S. and Canada. HP bought EDS, then the contact with the San Antonio railroad company was bought by a small IT company in the Greater Atlanta area (NSPI). I was offered a work-from-home job and worked as a Systems Administrator/Network Engineer until I retired in 2016.
In retirement I’m staying busy with DIY around the house (a 16x25 deck, mini-remodel of 2 bathrooms, wired the house for 1Gb Ethernet, playing with home automation, security and IOT (Internet of Things) devices. I’m also a frequent user of Instagram and YouTube where in follow follow folks building off-grid homesteads, folks who sold everything and are living in a sailboat and sailing all over the world, lots of aviation-related sites, lots of woodworking and DIY sites and lots of rock/blues of the 60's/70's sites.
