Roland's Story
Life
I just spent two of the best years of my life following my semi-retirement from the faculty at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. I moved to Ashland Oregon in September of 2004. In December, I married my beautiful and talented special lady that I had been dating over the previous five years and who accompanied me in September to Kenya and Rwanda. We honeymooned in Maui and then Paris and Vienna. Just couldn't be happier or feel more blessed. Our primary home is in the hills above Sonoma, California and we keep our Ashland townhouse for get-a-ways, friends, and family. Dick Melsheimer, my good friend since Montebello days, and his wife Patti joined us in Sonoma to celebrate our marriage.
My Daughter Laurel--see now photo of Laurel and me on the Sonoma coast--has been a constant source of wonder and pride.
She lives in Fairbanks and is a Junior in high school and an honor student.

and academia. I now concentrate on researching Arctic dinosaurs, writing up my research and supporting my bride's very active career at our Alma Mater---U.C. Berkeley.
I have had a life that I could have only dreamed of while attending Montebello high. I completed a Ph.D. in 1975 at U.C. Berkeley and have been constantly busy with teaching and research as a paleontologist and geologist. I couldn't have chosen a better career. I have traveled throughout Europe, Mexico, The Soviet Union-Russia, Alaska, and most of the Far West. My bride and I plan to continue travel with Australia and South America as our next destinations.
Judy and I are avid Cal and 49er football fans, love kayaking, hiking, walking beautiful beaches throughout the world, and bird-watching.
It would be great to hear from any of my Montebello classmates and maybe even meet at one of our favorite Sonoma resturants or wineries.
