Ron's Story
Life
I am presently living in Vancouver, Washington. I moved here with my wife Joan in 1973.
I'm still married to my college love, Joni Janssen, and we had four children, one was adopted. They all live here in Vancouver close to us....too close, sometimes.
My wife is retiring from the Post Office or rather is seeking a disability retirement. She has had cancer twice now and is having surgery this December for colorectal cancer.
We had 3 children and adopted one, so raised 4. Christmas, 2006, we lost our youngest son. His name was Joel and he was 22 years old. This about killed us, but God has helped us and we are doing well now. our other children are Ronnie, Joanna and Beth.
I have several grand children in the area so they keep me awful busy.
In about a year, we hope things will settle down and we can do some serious traveling. We have our bucket list, which I will share later.
This past summer I had the opportunity to go back to GA ...Expand for more
for a visit. I saw my family and had dinner with friends from my high school days: Susan Collins, Charlene Skipper, Margaret Mackensie, Bob Collier and Ed Barrett. We had a great time and later we had a bbq at Ed Barrett's home on the lake. Bob also took me hunting. This was a great adventure as we went hog hunting down on the Flynt River. We sat up in this booth about 15' off the ground for several hours in the late evening. It was hot! It was buggy! As it was getting dark, a hog came out of the woods and headed toward a feeder....Bob told me to put my sight on him and shoot if he stops. The 30 06 went off like a canon and the hog went down. We skinned and cut him up with Bob being the expert. I knew nothing. That was a lot of fun....I had forgotten about all the hunting days growing up....so you guessed it, last week I went out and bought me a new 30 06 and scope and I'm ready to go. It was a great summer with friends from my high school.
