October 12, 2015 UPDATE:
Well...a lot of changes have taken place since my last instalment. First of all, I have officially retired and left the workforce. My official date was May 15th and after a short preparation, turned in my keys and cell-phone, and never looked back. In the preceding few weeks, I had been fortunate to find a really nice property in a suburb of Phoenix where I planned to retire, and within a week, was moving...lock, stock and barrel...to Arizona.
In a few weeks, I will be heading to Arizona for the first of many trips and looking forward to getting the new digs in shape...really just getting used to the neighbourhood and meeting some of the other Canadians that live there. The home was furnished so I can start sorting out what to keep and what to give away. The motor-home needs some updating as well so, with these two projects ahead, my winter should be an eventful one.
Talk about retirement? It took me more than a month just to sleep in past 6:30 am. It took all summer to answer all of the e-mails from old clients wishing me well. (seems to took that long for the word to get out) I needed to be 'trained' for the day-to-day functions and new schedule, never having practiced the long term goals vs. the every day events. Funny that you work 45 or 50 years with many forms of training and learning until the day that you are 'on your own' and start from 'Square One' again.
Well, looking forward to the new times and experiences to come...
Ron
(update January 2017)
Bet you were all waiting for my latest update so...here it goes. Playing golf when it's 75 F (almost 30 C) sounds like a novelty, for the middle of January, but it's now twice a week and is truly the life of the retired. We have a great group of both Canadians and Americans, about 2 of us, and travel around Phoenix playing at various courses. Costs are quite reasonable and the locals treat like royalty. Truth is that without the Canadian winter population, most of the East Valley (Mesa and Apache Junction) would shut down forever. The summer months are extremely quiet here as the temperature is typically 110 F for months.
There is a curling club here for any of us that get really bored or simply want a taste of the ice and the granite. I installed a Shaw dish here, and get a little more 'hometown' news. Seems that Americans don,t care about our events nor our interests.
This park has, of course, a heated swimming pool and large hot tub, along with a large clubhouse, library, gym and pool room. We also have Texas Holdem' every Wednesday. Since the golf is Tuesday and Thursday, it keeps the we...Expand for more
eks moving along.
I heard a nasty rumour that there is talk of another reunion in the works. Would be fun to see some of the old gang at W P C if there are any survivors left. There have been a few people lately that have moved on to the grave...death and taxes I guess.
So, until the next update, be well and prosper.

Hey gang...December 1/ 2020 update...
Life is so different now, with all of the crazy people disregarding reasonably understandable rules to help save lives and foster good health. From mass parties and gatherings to complete disregard for others' health and welfare. This isn't a lecture for those that have no fear that a "killing virus" does not care who or where you are. Don't we all wish for just another year, when we've all lost friends and loved ones!
Anyway, here at the lake couldn't be better...minus the bears and cougars. The wildlife is bound and determined to exist with us. The deer walk the same paths as we do...albeit at different times of the day or night. The weather has been fabulous, considering that it's December in Saskatchewan. Yes, although we have to haul water about once every six weeks, and sometimes internet signals are weak, the life is remote and quiet. I'm still throwing a steak on the grill a couple of times a week and even washed the old truck the other day...outside, with a bucket. The sun is warm until about 4:00 and sinks quickly behind the hills.
I'm looking forward to the trip back south...hmmm...95 F...and of course, the golf courses. We've lost 3 or 4 friends from Phoenix this summer but, as we all age, S..T happens. Better just being safe these days.
For those that know my brother Bill, who is a year older than me, and has been afflicted with Alzheimer's, he is strong and well...and I can whoop him at crib since he is a little slow with the counts. We played golf down south a couple of times and here...at the White Bear course at Kenossee Lake. They are still in Edmonton, doing well, and close to their kids and grand-children.
I'll keep in touch, with these very exciting updates, as time moves on...best wishes to all those keeping the faith.
Wow, 2025 and Donald Trump. Who could ask for more! 10 years ago I retired and moved to Phoenix. Great retirement home with lots to enjoy. The golf is good and the concerts are great. Today is warm... 37 C at noon but planning to be 39 C in an hour or so.
Heading back to Saskatchewan later next week to the cabin at the lake and the spring cleanup... animal poop 💩 etc.
My hair, although I still have it, is pretty white with the times. I still play golf 4 or 5 times a week and, of course, a few cold ones as well! Life is good!
Ron.
