Rona's Story
Life
After High School I didn't go straight to college instead I traveled a lot. I moved to Los Angeles, Phoenix, Seattle, New York City, back to Cincinnati again for a short time, Indianapolis, Providence, San Francisco then back to Rhode Island and presently living in South Carolina. A lot to tell but I will try to keep it brief. Went to college here and there for photography, broadcasting and advertising design. Worked in the music industry during my late teens into my mid-twenties, which included being a buyer for the rock section at Tower Records (Seattle) after 5 years I moved to NYC to help open the first ever Tower Records on the East Coast, this job led me to a position at MTV (in the early days) as an assistant to the advertising department. After a marriage, a baby and a divorce I then moved to RI (where my parents had moved to our summer home after Cincy) to start over. I went to work for Rhode Island School of Design for 10 years, first as an assistant in the office of continuing education and then as the assistant in the architecture department, while working in the architecture dept. a professor, Friedrich St.Florian, who had worked at RISD for 30 years, won the WWII Memorial competition in Washington, DC. He asked me to come and work for him as his Studi...Expand for more
o Manager and Marketing Coordinator, which I did. The memorial is completed and it is located between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial, located at what used to be called the Rainbow Pool. I was with his firm for 3 years until the completion of the WWII project. After working for Friedrich I got hired at Brown University at the John Nicholas Brown Center, a historic Victorian home that the Brown family lived in and left to the university, it was partially a touring museum and the rest were offices and a place for master student to come and study. After my oldest daughter moved out of the house I decided to make a life change so after visiting a friend who was living in Columbia, SC in 2006, I checked out the area, great weather, nice people, small city, two hours from the ocean or mountains, was offered a great job, so I took it. I was lucky; my house sold in New England, bought a new house here and my youngest daughter and I have been here since September '06. Rachael's going to a wonderful private school and I am loving my job in the Dance department at USC...wonderful dancers/artistic directors/instructors and visiting guest artists from around the world...we have wonderful ballet/modern productions/shows throughout the academic year..it's a lot of fun.
