Ronald's Story

Life Like most people, it's been a rollercoaster ride. Mostly fun, with a few rough curves here and there. It took me about 10 more years, after N.W., to get serious about the ride. I'm not sure I'm all that serious now, but life has been good, for the most part. I'm always looking forward to what comes next. Currently living just north of New York City and am taking advantage of a country home with easy access to one of the world's great cities. I think about my NW years fairly often.... wondering what happened with certain people, remembering life in the "courtyard," teachers - good and not so good, etc. It all blends together to make a pleasant piece of my life, which I like to mentally visit from time to time. Also, the class of '65 is getting old enough to begin losing our parents (some of us, including yours truly, have already finished with those horrible events), making the memories of earlier days all that more precious. In 1965, I didn't realize that I was living one of the best times of my life. Who really appreciates that as a teenager? Maybe some of us, but that realization didn't hit me until I was well over 40. Anyway, my thanks to Niagara Wheatfield for providing a wealth of great memories, into which I can hide when I need some quiet time. Would love to do it all over again. Needless to say, I (like many people) would do a few things differently. My time as lead guitarist for a few local groups, such as the Kegmen and the Soul Survivors, etc., was also one of the best of times. Most people who may read this will draw a blank with groups mentioned, but for me, it was one of the highlights of my life. "Let's hear it for the Stardust Lounge on Pine Avenue!" LATE BREAKING NEWS! My nomadic family and I now live in the green State of Vermont; Stowe, that is. What a beautiful slice of the Earth. EVEN LATER BREAKING NEWS! Left Vermont far behind. Have now found a comfortable living in the gorgeous Finger Lakes Region of New York...Expand for more
State. This is a target for retirement in a few years. Low, low cost of living and beautiful landscapes. HOPEFULLY NEAR THE END OF BREAKING NEWS: Have recently retired and am now living in Lockport, NY. I know, I know....why back to the snow? Am I crazy? School By the time I graduated from Niagara Wheatfield in 1965, I had attended 13 different schools - as a result of parents with migratory habits (mostly between NY and FL). So, I was almost always the "new kid." Some would say that would be hard on a little kid, but I look at the silver lining: it created in me a high level of adaptability, which has been an asset even through today. Even though I was always the new kid,I have good memories of my school experiences prior to graduation. There were rocky periods, but actually, I'd love to do it again. College If I were to add together all of my undergraduate semester hours, I could probably qualify for a PhD! That is simply the result of poor planning. Most of my post Niagara Wheatfield education (formal, that is) has come from the State University of New York, from Buffalo to Long Island. I did not really become serious about school until I finished a 4 year stint in the US Air Force. Before that, it was party time. After that, I went to SUNY at Stony Brook and graduated first in my class. I had to get serious about something, because I was running out of money. Workplace I have been an administrator for hospital-based and private-practice based cardiology programs for nearly 30 years. After a 20 year hitch in Florida, I have returned to my home state of New York. Presently living/working in the New York City area. It's good to be home. Military I joined the USAF in 1970, after receiving a gentle nudge from the Selective Service System, in the form of a draft notice. I was fortunate enough to remain in my career field for the entire 4 years..... assigned to Keesler AFB Medical Center in Biloxi, Mississippi. Honorably discharged in 1974.
