Ronald's Story
I am happily retired and living in Paris, France, with my partner/husband of 55 years, Dr. Kenneth L. Rider. After the 2016 elections, we sold our house in California and moved to Paris because of T. Rump, though we had long planned to live here at some point.
We are fully integrated into the excellent French medical system and are receiving great care. We have long been familiar with Paris and with our neighborhood, Montparnasse, so we feel very much at home here. Our French is good enough to allow us to communicate when we need to, since many people here speak little or no English. In February 2021, we moved from our old atelier to a brand-new apartment right next door.
My latest photos are of me at galas at the Palais Garnier, the old Paris opera house, sponsored by the Friends of the Paris Opera, of which my husband and I are members.
We survived the various lock downs and have each received the two Pfizer shots plus two boosters. The opera and museums have reopened, and the restaurants are now open. In March last year, we made our first trip outside of Paris in almost a year, returning to the pleasant city of Dijon. For my 76th birthday ...Expand for more
in July 2021, we visited Lyon, a beautiful city and the gastronomic capital of France.
Because of our contributions to the Opéra National de Paris, my husband Dr. Ken Rider and I have been named to the level of Mécène and our names will be henceforth in the opera and ballet programs. The Paris Opera is the primary opera and ballet company of France. It was founded in 1669 by King Louis XIV.
Great news! I have been completely cured of prostate cancer according to my oncologist and my PSA level. Now I have to avoid being hit by a Paris vehicle.
We met a friend from CA in Athens in March this year and also traveled with her to Thessaloniki. Cousins from CA and WI stayed with us in April and June. We are going to the opera on July 4 to celebrate our July birthdays--no long travel for us this summer.
We are looking forward to rooting for Les Bleus in the World Cup this year and to the Paris Olympics in 2024.
My husband Ken and I just survived a bout with COVID despite being fully vaccinated. I would not wish this nasty bug on anyone--well, maybe on a few.
We are looking forward to an active social season at the American Club and the Paris Opera.
