Ronald's Story
Workplace
After school, I was kind of aimless at first... not really knowing what I wanted to do with my life. I took courses in Business Administration and Electrical Engineering, then finally Drafting & Design, which I loved.
I was hired at a local ship fabrication yard and drew blueprints of the hull structure of a large casino boat that was being built at the time. After a few months, I was offered a better job at an offshore fabrication yard, and took it immediately. I drew structural blueprints of the submerged sections of oil rigs. I worked there for a couple years before being laid off due to the oil industry crashing.

out a month later, I began working at a design firm in Lafayette doing work similar to what I had been doing before. That lasted approximately a year before a few of us there were laid off due to the further decline of the oil industry.
The next few months were pretty lean times, as no one was hiring draftsmen. I finally gave up on finding work as a draftsman, and I took a job at a local sign company. I worked there for 23 years, designing many of the signs around the area and offshore.
Recently, I was made aware of a drafting position at a local fabrication yard, and I took it. After 26 years I am back at my original profession!
