Ron's Story
Life
Well... I had enlisted into the Army during the summer of our junior and senior year. So about a month after graduation (7 July to be exact) I left for Basic Training. After Basic training, and then job training in telecommunications, I was stationed at Ft Huachuca, way down in southern AZ, for close to 4 years. While I was there I went to Bahrain in the Persian Gulf for about 6 months and also to Saudi Arabia for 8 more months (Desert Shield and Desert Storm). After returning from Saudi I met and married my wife Crystal and very shortly thereafter we moved to Karlsruhe, Germany. We lived in Germany for 3 years and during that time I was deployed to Macedonia for about 4 months. Then we moved to Carlisle, PA. Carlisle was a great place, loved it there. Unfortunately we were only in Carlisle for 2 years before moving to Okinawa, Japan for 3 years. Then we moved to Tallahassee, FL for 3 more years were I got to work in the exciting field of US Army Recruiting! (If you couldn't detect the sarcasm in that... I'm sorry, I'll try harder next time) Once we were done with that nightmare we moved to Ft Belvoir, VA. In Dec of 2005 ...Expand for more
I got word that I had been selected for duty in Iraq and I was gone in Jan of 2006. I was in Baghdad at Victory Base which really wasn't too bad. If you have to be in a war zone then Victory Base is the place to be. So, spent a year there and returned to Ft Belvoir in Jan 2007. Somewhere in the midst of all the moving around and deployments, Crystal and I have had 3 children: Amber, Lauren, and Jonathon. We all live in Stafford, VA and plan to stay here at least until Jonathon has graduated from High School in 2014. As of 1 Aug 07 I am officially retired form the Army (20 years, 24 days). In June '07 I started working for Harris Corporation as a Field Engineer in Alexandria, VA. I liked working for Harris, but it was a three hour round trip commute. As of July '08 I have started a new job with QinetiQ North America as a Systems Engineer. The great thing about this job is that I now have a 5 to 10 minute commute. Ok, so I quit that job because it SUCKED!! I realized that having a job that I enjoy is better than not having a commute. On 23 Mar 2009 I became a VTC Engineering Manager working for L3 in Arlington, VA. --Peace OUT
