Ronda's Story
I always wanted to be the first woman president. My parents wanted me to be a lawyer. When I grew up, after I married, I decided to become a teacher so I could have summers off with my children. I'm happy with the decision I made. I have two wonderful sons and three beautiful grand daughters! And, I love my job! There's nothing in this world like shaping young minds to become active American citizens!
My favorite way to relax: walk barefoot on the beach and it doesn't even matter if it's the middle of winter!
The wildest thing I ever did in school: kissed a boy under the staircase at Richmond. :) Who was the principal that gave me ISS anyways! LOL
How do I deal with the "day to day" on my job? Well, I love my job! Teaching kids is not a chore but a pleasure. It's amazing to me that neither the child nor I always know how we have touched each other's lives.
My hero was and still is my mom. She valued education and she inspired me to be a better person. I hope that I can inspire my students in that same way. I tell my students, "they can take everything material away from you but they can't take away your education."
I have lived all over the east coast of the US. We constantly moved due to my dad's job. There are many people who I never had the opportunity to say goodbye to and who I'd love to see again but the one I'd love to see most is Pamela Moore of Matthew's area. She was my best friend when I was about six. When we moved, I cried and cried. I haven't seen her in 40+ years but I still think about her. Do any of you know how I could get in touch with her????
My obsessions are: Spanish, motorcycles, animals,...Expand for more
nature, art, history, museums, travel, etc. --Not necessarily in that order.
The teacher I'd love to see again: Mrs Purser of Indian Trail Elementary. She was tough but she was an excellent teacher. She's probably looking down from heaven laughing at me as I try to deal with discipline in the classroom.
If I won $100 million, I'd give some to my kids and the rest to scholarships to help others become teachers. I value education and there are so many kids who want to attend college but can't. I only wish I had the means to help them all.
My career aspirations: 1) Peace Corp, 2) National Boards, 3) Get a doctorate and teach at the University level. And I'll do it too---just watch and see!
My first crushes: Paul Kirkley and Danny Hewett, Indian Trail Elementary, Where are they now?
The weirdest job I ever had? Secretary at Imperial Foods Poultry Plant in Hamlet, NC. Yuk! Chicken slime all over my desk, computer, phone, etc. Thank God I went back to college!
My first job was paper girl in Mineral Virginia at age 12 and I got paid peanuts. What I remember most about the job was that they only gave it to me because my brother was too young. They really didn't want a girl doing the job---they wanted a boy.
GIRL POWER! LOL
I've entered a new phase in my life. My kids are adults, I'm a grandma, and I'm single again after many years of marriage. And, I'm back in Rockingham.
Love life? I've reconnected through classmates.com with a former friend and 1981 grad., Larry Tillis. We've been inseparable for a few months now and I'm the happiest I've ever been. :)
I have a great life and I give God all the praise!
