Roni (Rhonda)'s Story
I was in the last Freshman Class in 1970 before the school closed in 1971. Besides being involved in sports, I also played the String Bass while I was there. Everyone at ICHS knew me as Roni which has been my nickname since young childhood. I still go by Roni with friends from ICHS as well as my family. Although Maggie Dreiling was my "big sister", I tended to spend time with Joey (JoAnn) Huslig.
For the past 36 years I have worked in Mental Health. I moved to Topeka in 1990, and then to Lawrence 2 years later as it was in much nicer than Topeka, and closer to Kansas City which is where I got my Bachelor's in Nursing, and ...Expand for more
later my Master's in Adult Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. The VA in Topeka has been my major employment for the past 26 years, and I also have a very part-time private practice in Lawrence (wanted to give somethng back to Lawrence besides my tax dollars! In 2018 I retired from the VAMC.
I've always had a very special place in my heart for the too short a time I was able to spend at ICHS as well as the many memories and experiences I was able to engagbe in.
Ideally, I'd like to be able to find other women who attended classes at ICHS who might be interested in having another "all school" reunion in the not-so-distant future.
