I was called "Ronnie" (instead of "Junior") until I was 14 and "Ron" until I was 21. Now it's "Rod." I can tell how long people have known me by which name they use. Although the hospital where I was born was in Glendale, my family was living on Mount Washington near downtown L.A. in the 30's, 40's, and 50's. It was a great place to grow up. (Former L.A. Mayor Villaraigosa owned our house at the time of his election.) Later, I lived in La Canada Flintridge, Yucaipa, Turlock, Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, Cardiff by the Sea, and now Rancho Santa Fe, all in California. My schools have been: Paradise Canyon Elementary School (La Canada Flintridge), Oak Grove Elementary School (La Canada Flintridge), Yucaipa Elementary School, Yucaipa Junior High School, Yucaipa High School, Turlock High School, Westmont College (Santa Barbara), University of Uppsala (Sweden), U.C. Berkeley, Chapman College Semester at Sea, Fresno State University, and UCLA School of Law. My father played football for UCLA and is in Wikipedia for inventing the modern mouthguard worn by athletes. One of my sisters is an Egyptologist, also cited in Wikipedia. I have traveled to about 80 countries. Back in the '60's, I was in Romania the first time an American President visited Eastern Europe. The Amazon River, Bhutan, and South Africa are places I'd like to see again someday. I go jogging twice a day with our two border collies, Logan and Lara, golf three times a week with my friends, do some gardening (one acre with a vegetable garden and fruit orchard), play the piano, read, watch UCLA basketball and football, go out for breakfast on Mondays, volunteer at the local library on Tuesdays, and have a yoga class on Thursdays.
