Rosemary's Story

College I attended Andrew College in Cuthbert, Ga., before completing my degree at LaGrange. I remember that time at LaGrange as a wonderful learning experience, and as a time of making some wonderful friends. I've had little opportunity to return for reunions at LaGrange, and regret that very much. It would be great to hear from some of you now. My favorite professor was Dr. David Naglee. He was such a jolly, talented, interesting man, and he brought all of that to the classroom. I remember colorful lectures in every class I took with Dr. Naglee. I also remember him as an excellent cellist. What a wonderful musical talent he shared with us! After LaGrange, I studied at Emory's Candler School of Theology for a year, but did not complete my master's degree at that time. I left Candler and went to work at First United Methodist church in Moultrie, Ga., became engaged shortly after, and married the next February. Bob and I started our life together at Fort Campbell, KY, and that was interrupted by his tour of duty in Viet Nam, the following September. While he was gone, I worked in Douglas, Ga., at First UMC with the children and youth. We settled in Atlanta upon Bob's return, and I worked at Rich's during the week and at St. James UMC as a volunteer on the weekend for several years. My marriage to Bob ended in divorce in 1977, and I returned to South Georgia. I worked at First UMC in Eastman for several years, was Children's Coordinator for the Americus District, served as a Curriculum Consultant with the United Methodist Publishing House and the South Ga. Conference for awhile and had a great time directing a district children's camp at Dooley Campground for a couple of summers. That was just a one-week camp during those summers, but they were so much fun, and helped to prepare...Expand for more
me for my marriage several years later to a conference camping director in Mississippi! I left South Georgia to finish my Master's degree in Christian Education at Scarritt in Nashville, TN. Those were the days! I had a wonderful time there. So many of us were returning to school after working for awhile, so at 30 years old, I fit right in! I studied hard, played hard and worked hard, and in 1982, I graduated with a Master's in Christian Education and came to First UMC in Corinth, MS. Since then, I have served as a Diaconal Minister at Corinth, First, as Curriculum Consultant on the North MS Conference Staff, as Diaconal Minister at St. Andrew's UMC in Oxford, First United Methodist Church in Gulfport, MS, and St. Paul UMC in Clarksdale, MS. In 1984, I married Ed Woodall, who was the Director at Camp Lake Stephens and a minister in the North MS Conference. We have two children, Ted (17) and Margie (13). We are currently in Amory, MS at the St. Andrew's UMC here, and are getting ready to retire in June of 2004. I am looking forward to Ed's retirement and to living in a house of our own! We have served some great churches and in some wonderful towns, but it will be fun to have some time together without the phone ringing all hours of the day and night. We are both clowns (our daughter Margie is, too) and we have done a number of spiritual life retreats, and taken many people on special trips, etc., so we are looking forward to choosing to do a few of those things, as well...when we want to! Son, Ted, and daughter, Margie, will continue to keep us busy with school and church activities. Of course, Ed and I were probably much later bloomers than most of you, so we still have much to look forward to in that regard since Margie will still have high school to complete after we retire.
