Rosemary's Story
Life
* After graduating from BCHS, I attended Mt. Marty College in Yankton. I graduated in December of 1974, after spending a semester internship at St. Joe's Hospital in Omaha.
* I decided to 'take a year off' after graduation, and spent two months with my brother in California in early 1975; then came home and worked at Markota Acres Country Club. Dick and Zee Amundson were the managers at that time.
* That fall, I moved to Oklahoma City to look for work as a Medical Social Worker; since nothing seemed to be panning out in SD. However, same issue down there...too young; didn't have a Master's Degree; not enough experience.
* I was offered a job with the SD Dept. of Social Services in Winner, SD. Carolee Brooks Hoekman, a BCHS classmate of mine, was also worki...Expand for more
ng there..and I think she put a good word in for me. Anyway, I worked there in Child Protection Services for about 2.5 years; then transferred to Pierre in 1978.
* I began working in Pierre in 1978, and have been with DSS all these years. I've worked in Foster Care, Eligibility Services, and since 1991, have been a Program Specialist in the Division of Child Care Services.
* I am married; and have one son who is truly the best part of me.
School
In all honesty, I really didn't care too much for high school. I found it hard to 'fit in'. I did meet two good friends that have remained best 'buds' from eastern Bennett Co. that I still hear from on occasion...Teresa (aka Woofie) and Peggy.
