Rosetta's Story
After graduating from Norcom H.S., I attended Norfolk State, and graduated in 1975. Joined the Portsmouth Police Dept.in October 1975. After serving in Uniform Patrol, I investigated sex crimes for several years. I am proud of the fact that I was the first black female sergeant, promoted in 1991, and was the Assistant Director of Training. Then in 1994,was promoted to Lieutenant, was then the department's Director of Training. I retired after 22 years of service in 1997.
I married Geravis (G.A.)Brown in 1981, met him on the Portsmouth Dept. We have 2 children together; G.A. Jr. and Kristal, they are both graduates of Norcom High School. My son graduated from NHS in 2002 and from VA.Tech in 2005. My daughter gr...Expand for more
aduated from NHS in 2006 and from VCU in May of this year (2009). I guess you can see that I am a proud parent. I also have 3 wonderful step-daughters.
I still live in Portsmouth and still live in Mt. Hermon. I am currently the Victim Witness Director in the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office. I guess I will retire again, but it won't be after another 22 years.

My favorite way to relax is to read a good book, undisturbed, while drinking sweet iced tea.
My hero, is of course Barack Obama.
I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a fine idea. As it turns out, they were as suprised as I was when I joined the police dept, instead.
