Roxy's Story
Well, I do not believe I was well known in High School. I was kept to myself except for the other kids I knew through church. I was a preachers daughter, It was a preference of my parents for me NOT to date from outside the church so it was easier to not be known LOL. I did date Mike Nading (from the church, Rick (something) and Richard Bales (from another church)
After leaving high school, I attended a church college (1971)at the request of my parents. The girls had a 10 PM time to be in during the week etc, boys did not. For anyone who knew me....that did not compute for me. LOL I was caught in the boys dorm (a no-no)and they threatened to expel me and I was very happy with that so they did not LOL!
I did not get my paper work for OHSU in a timely manner so I went to Boise State the next year (1972). Then finished after getting married to Mike Nading in Ashland at Southern Oregon University (1973-1974)with an Associates in Nuring. I am currently in an on line program to finally complete my BSN (as a personal goal)since I started out with that intent.
After graduating from SOU, I worked in Roseburg for the next 12 years, There were 2 hospitals so I worked 6 at each. I worked in the critical care unit some and the Emergency Department (ED)(Primarily). I was also dispatched out of the ED on ambulance calls. I was the Manager of the ED at one hospital and a hospital supervisor 1/2 time at the other. I had 2 girls (Sheree and LaRee) that are now 32 and 33.
Mike and I divorced and the girls and I moved to Portland not knowing anyone. It was a great adventure...I started at Kaiser in the ED and moved to Emanuel Hospital in critical care and the ED. I moved to Flight Nursing on the Life Flight Helicopter for several years gaining tons of experience in critical snap decisions for all ages of patients. Spent some time in Neonatal, Pediatric and Adult intensive care as well as the Burn Unit and Pediatric Bone Marrow Unit. I then moved to one of the hos...Expand for more
pitals where I became the Director of the Emergency Department. THat was the first 25 years of my career.
11 years ago, I moved to the Fire Department in Vancouver Washington where I am a Division Chief of the Emergency Medical Services Division. That is all the medical calls. 86% of our calls are Medical, 7% are Fire and the rest are misc. other calls including fire alarms.
At 44 I had my son Josh ( He turns 13 this week. NOT a mistake, it was great having a child when you could afford one LOL. I am currently married to Joe..my soul mate :-) and he has two children ages 36 and 30. Our grandkids are 13,11,9,4 and 3.
My husband was a Chief at our Fire Department and is in a different retirement system so he has been retired for 2 years. He keeps one of our grandchildren on Thursdays and One on Fridays....so we have a busy household beside having a 13 year old.
I am on call 24/7 for multiple types of calls that I need to respond on. I have gone far on my two year degree but the 4 year is what I started out for initially so it is a satisfaction thing just for me. I am one of 3 women Chiefs in the State of Washington...I can hold my own LOL
I love that I am now planning for my retirement sometime between 2014 and 2018 as we all are. It is now a very fun time in my life and expect it to only get better. Joe, Josh and I live on 5 acres in Battleground Washington, we have a Chalet type house with a 23 ft ceiling and we are a hub of the place to be with our families with animals, gardens and fruit trees for all to partake from.
Joe and I plan on being at the next reunion since Rick Hoffine has does such a fine job of getting us on this site and sharing. I look forward to seeing others.
I had a great time at one of the reunions I was at I think the 20 year but the first reunion I went to (10 year?) was like I was in high school and felt very much like an outsider. It seemed that everyone was still in thier little groups and I did not like it at all.
