Roy's Story
Life
I lived in Bakersfield and LA for my first years and moved to Minter Field in 1947. Living there gave me the chance to attend high school in Shafter. I joined the Air Force in 1950 and returned to the Valley in 1954. I married Vivian Cullum in 1956; we have 2 daughters who were born in 1962 & 1972. Vivian and I currently are retired and live in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Workplace
During the time I was in school after returning from the Air Force I had a number of minium wage jobs that supplimented the GI bill. I managed to land a job with the Ramo Woldridge Corp....Expand for more
in '59 which went a long way toward helping Vivian and I eat well. In 1961 I joined the Space Technology Corp. and worked there 'til I went to work for California Institute of Technology. After the a rather short stay at Cal Tech I was offered a position at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. We lived there until 1979 when we moved to New Mexico. Both Vivian and I were offered positions at Los Alamos National Laboratory, wew jumped at the opportunity to leave the cold winters behind. We retired from the Laboratory in 1995 and are currently living very happly in Santa Fe.
