Roy's Story
Life
Certainly lots of water has flowed over the dams and under the bridges since our Schurz days. While at the time we all scattered in different directions and cared little to keep in touch, now as the years have passed and most of the sand is in the bottom of the hourglass, we long for the old days and desire to rekindle some of the friendships that we once had.
Following our days at Schurz, Diane took her nursing training at the Augustana School of Nursing near Lincoln Park. Since I finished Schurz in January of Â58 and Diane in June of Â58, I had a semester jump in my schooling. I began at North Park College, on to Wright Junior College and finished at the Chicago Teachers College. By attending school during summers, I was able to finish a bit earlier and we both graduated in June of Â61.
Since that was our first opportunity to get married, we did so on 6/10/61, the weekend before my final exams! Diane began a nursing career at Northwest Hospital and then Norwegian American Hospital. We lived at 6-corners on Cicero and worked for a couple of years while I got a Masters from Loyola downtown at the Water Tower on Michigan Ave.
Then in early Â64, I had an opportunity to teach overseas for the US government. We jumped at the opportunity and were assigned to Frankfurt Germany where we remained until retirement, 32 years later in Â96.

rankfurt, enjoying a unique life that blended two worlds and cultures. We raised 3 daughters while in Frankfurt and widely traveled the continent.
In Â95 we helped close down the American presence in Frankfurt as the military left this area. I spent our last year teaching in a neighboring town where the dependent schools were still in operation.
We retired in Â96 to Florida to be with my aging parents who had left Chicago in Â76 for the warm South. We are grateful for the time that we were allowed to be with them during their declining years. Mom died at age 90 and Dad at 95.
While we worked the majority of our years with middle school kids, since retirement, the Lord has given us a heart for the elderly. We have been privileged to care for many and have ushered several right into Glory.
We have a condo, also in Florida on the West coast and love to break away for brief visits. Now that our responsibilities have eased a bit, we hope to cross the State a bit more frequently than we have been able to do.
Throughout our lives, we have witnessed GodÂs hand of blessing upon us and enjoy regular Bible study and sharing GodÂs wonderful Gospel with any and all. There is no greater joy than knowing that our sins have been forgiven, washed away by the sacrifice made at Calvary in our behalf. We marvel at GodÂs grace and treasure our salvation more than any other of our experiences or treasures. If you donÂt have the same assurance, we would love to share GodÂs love with you.
Blessings, Roy and Diane (Kuhrt) McCarty
