Ruby's Story
I've been something of a vagabond, due to my first husband being in the Air Force. I've lived in Arkansas, obviously, Mississippi, Massachusetts, Kentucky, Florida, Washington and now to the end, Oregon. I've been in or through all states except Minnisota and North Dakota. Mostly I drove and was able to see the landscape and meet some of the people. Of all the states, I like Oregon least of all. Too much rain, too many days of clouds pressing down on everything. The summers are very nice, sunny and hot but it just doesn't last long enough, had one person tell me that we have 270 days of rain and dark clouds and 90 days of very good weather. I think he was generous with his 90 days for summer.
I was 90 years on my last birthday, 15 July 2020. I really do look it and feel it but not ready to go for the long sleep just yet. My picture is of me at 89 and my very good friend, Paul Richardson. I refer to him as my "adopted" ...Expand for more
son and his wife Amy as my "adopted" daughter-in- law. I met Paul in 1976 just after my son went into the Air Force. I was working for Air Force Recruiting and he came to Spokane as a Recruiter and has been in my life ever since.
My beautiful daughter is dead. She died of cancer on 25 Nov 1999, which was Thanksgiving. For years, no matter the date, I could not celebrate Thanksgiving. Three years ago one of my friends talked me to going out for the day and we have been going out every year since.
I've had a good life. A lot of ups and downs but I think the ups have won out. I now lead a quite life, because I have to not by choice. If I had my choice I would be out kicking up my heels, laughing and having a marvelous time. But, sadly circumstances alter cases. I can still enjoy good company, food for the most part, my diet is limited, and can have a good laugh, mostly at myself. So, if this is too long - don't read it!
