Ruby L.'s Story
In 1991 shortly after our first grandchild was born, we discovered my husband had a blood disorder that causes early strokes. Then because his blood was being monitored for that, around 1996, his doctor discovered a change in his blood that turned out to be a Chronic form of Leukemia. Because of the conflicting treatments for those 2 blood disorders, he formed a bloodclot in his brain (Nov. 7, 1998)that caused extensive damage. I became his in-home caregiver after he recovered enough to be released, just in time for Christmas, until April of 2001, when my own health prevented me from continuing. In the meantime my daughter and daughter-in-law had been taking CNA training, so my daughter took over his care at that time. My daughter-in-law continued on to become an MA. Near the end of 2001, he went into an adult care home, except for some occational visits to the home of one of his sisters, who is a trained ...Expand for more
caregiver. He was also able to be included in all of the
holiday get-togethers. Our son and daughter-in-law had moved him into their home, only a few days before he died, on December 5, 2005. Since then my daughter and daughter-in-
law have continued their schooling to include the pre-requisite classes to become RN's, and hope to be selected for the spring of 2009 nursing school session.

boy. We also had the pleasure of becoming the proud grandparents of 8. My daughter had a girl, 3 boys, then another girl. After all 5 of our daughter's children were born, my son's wife had 2 boys (Twins that are not identical), then 1 girl. My husband won his battle to survive, just long enough for all 8 grandchildren to be born.]
I have recently begun a new chapter in my life, and have met the man that I choose to continue my life's journey with.
