Rudolph's Story

Life Howdy All! Class of 1968. Living in Chicago. Was a full-time musician for most of the 70's and first third of the 80s. Then went to DeVry just long enough to get the basics of electronics, then worked for my church about 3 years. Afterwards worked part-time doing deliveries for a specialty print-shop while I revived my music career. A few more bands - country, wedding, dance - whatever brought in a buck. Currently I am between bands. Selective Recall disbanded after 16 years of doing 80s and bar favorites. In Feb of 2004 we were hired to record Wang Jung's "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" for use in commercials for the Majestic Star Casino in Indiana. If you heard the commercial, that's me on the guitar and vocals. After Selective Recall I joined the Party Maniacs band – did quite a few gigs over the next couple of years. The Leader/Singer moved to Florida in June 2015. Got married for the first time to Marian on 4 April 1998 - best move I ever made and about time!!! My day gig is being the Service Manager for Mann Technology Corp an Info-Technology Managed Services Provider. I went to the 10 year class reunion. I also went to the 40 year reunion - I didn't remember anyone! And only one of my English teachers remembered me! Want to leave with this last note - if you know me, feel free to contact me. If you come out to see any of my future band gigs, make sure you remind me of who you are - memory's not as good as it once was. So, have a great life and thanks for reading this to the end!! Later, Rudy Lobo PS If any of you are in contact with Conant lady formerly known as Molly Klemma, say Hi! for me. She let me share her Spanish class book once! "Hola Isabell!" - RL School I was pretty dense when it came to Guy-Girl stuff in High School! But I did have two major crushes - Debbie Dyer was my first crush, Molly Klemma was my second crush! Don't recall letting Debbie know; definitely never told Molly - Yeesh! I was really clueless in this area. As for Teachers! The algebra teacher Miss Poindexter may be responsible for my continued use of Algebra - she was a total fox - made Algebra a lot more interesting. After her first year she got married and became Mrs. Smith! I remember playing a few School gigs, being in the talent show, getting called to the vice-principal's office every time my hair got noticeably too long, Ace-ing a Social Studies test. Looking back, I liked High School. Could I do it all over again? Sure, why not? Had a fairly decent time, I might try to be a little more proactive in the girl-guy stuff... but then, I kind of like who I am and who I am still becoming and a lot of what happened at Conant, and the way it happened (or didn't happen!), has contributed to it all. I still run into some of the Conant musicians from time to time - it's good to see them. It would be good to see any of "Youse Guise"! And I hope I do. Later! Rudy College I went to the Chicago Music College at Roose...Expand for more
velt University for a year and half before dropping out. This school was way over my capabilities. I originally went to Roosevelt University for an Accounting/Business Major. I took a general elective basic music theory course and was hooked. Got well known in the Music College and the next term I simply signed up for all the classes. This is a school that you had to audition to get into! When I went to sign up, they couldn't find my name on the roster (because I never was formally accepted to the Music College!), the Head Dean was passing by, informed of the problem which he solved by personally handwriting my name to the roster! It was a few weeks before I found out that students had to audition to get in. I soon found out that I was in way over my head - it was a good thing for me that the school was short tenors that year and really needed my voice. I did learn a lot there which I have used over the years in the various bands that I have been in. PLUS... I met and shook hands with Igor Stravinsky at a Concert we gave of one of his works - "The Symphony of Psalms". I was introduced as a Composition Major and he wished me the best of success. That was one of the most incredible moments of my life - he was and is one of my musical idols and actually got to shake his hand! Whew! As for the partying, guy-girl stuff at the time - I was still rather dense in that area and stayed out of "trouble" or "fun" depending on how you look at it. I remember meeting and being interested in a couple of ladies but I was clueless on what to do about it. Ah Well! Aside from Igor Stravinsky, the person I remember most from CMC is Mark Anderson. He was amazing! He was the other Tenor and all around awesome musician. He could play the piano like Mozart - just fly off the top of his head! There were these old Silent Movie House background-music books in the music College music library. They had all sorts of musical passages for movie scenes like car chases, love scenes, fight scenes, etc. The movie house piano player would turn to this page or that to have an appropriate music passage underneath whatever was happening on the screen. Mark, myself and a bunch of other music students would take one of these books to a piano practice room. We would make up stories on the fly and Mark would play from this book - we spent hours doing this!! We’d be giddy at the end of one of these improv sessions. Too bad we never thought to record or write these down; we could have made a god chunk of money. Ah Well! It was fun! I remember passing a piano class mid-term because I had injured my finger while breaking down a movable stage after a concert. I could not play the test material very well but the teacher took my injury into account. Truth was, I actually played the stuff better with my injured finger than I could un-injured but I didn't tell her that! Well that's enough reminiscing for now. You all have a nice life and drop me a line sometime. Later - Rudy
