Russ's Story
I won't attempt to cover 33 years of life in a paragraph, so I'll just fill in a highlight or two and tell where I am now.
In 1979 I married Jane Fitzgerald, a graduate of U of Md. and we have been married for going on 29 years, with six children and now one grandson.
I lost most of my hair and what is left has turned gray...
I love to write and was an English Major at Indiana University. Two of my kids love to write and are English majors. They say the apple does not fall far from the tree.
I currently work for Mennonite Publishing House and was formerly a Mennonite Pastor. I love my work because I love writing and publishing and I am very invested in the Peace witness of the Mennonite church. By the end of the summer we should move to Scottdale, Pa, where I work. I look forward to walking to my job every day, instead of driving nearly 50 miles each way, as I do now.
I have reinvented myself numerous times over the decades and have had more jobs and vocations than can be counted on one hand.
I enjoy road cycling and have done a "century" ride ea...Expand for more
ch of the past two summers. I try to ride 1,000 miles each year. I was not a jock in high school, so I have a certain latent pride in the fact that at 51 I can keep up with my 20-something sons (okay, so maybe they do get ahead of me...) I also love the outdoors and our family enjoys hiking. I enjoy photography--took 1600 pictures on a recent trip to England.
Jane and I love to travel and will do more of it now that most of our kids are out of the house. Special loves are England/Ireland and the mountains of Idaho.
I love to read, so around the house are mountains of books. Current favorite authors are Wendell Berry and Wallace Stegner.
Hinsdale Central was just one way-station in life for me. We moved to Hinsdale just before I began 7th grade and moved literally the day after I graduated from high school. I believe I have not connected in any way with more than about 3 classmates since I graduated from college.
