Russell's Story
Twenty years. Wow... where to start...
Since leaving MHS, I am pleased to report that I have turned out OK. I have achieved neither wealth nor fame; and greatness continues to elude me.
But I can say I'm happy, and still marching to the beat of a different drummer. If I were a card in the Tarot deck, I would be the Fool.
I've gotten married, had two great daughters and a son that takes after me so much the medical profession calls it a disability.
I worked at a tugboat yard through college, became an economist until I lost faith in the dismal science, spent time as an independent contractor (mortgage industry), until finally settling down the last decade as Ye Village Nerd of the City of Beverly.
When not at home or stored securely in the basement office at work, I can be found hanging at home with family, peakbagging in the mountains of New England, sailing along Cape Ann, or taking long slow runs around town.
I have slept alone in the mountains, and hosted formal turkey dinners for 40 people at 3200 feet above sea level. I have delivered 372 ice cream sandwiches to Appalachian Trail hikers in the White Mountains and may stop for a while once I hit 500.
I play harmonica and guitar - I own a banjo. I've played the To...Expand for more
psfield Fair to an audience of 5. I firmly believe I am one of the worst musicians to have played there. I ran a bluegrass jam for a decade, and still host an annual acoustic jam and BBQ each May.
I've worked on restoring a couple of sailboats, raced poorly, and can be found sailing year round.
I remain a font of useless knowledge and bad jokes, and some people still find my enthusiasms best enjoyed in small doses.
I still have failed utterly at knowing when to shut up, when the line has been crossed, and how to hold a grudge.
In short, the scenery might have changed, but the script remains the same. I have gotten pretty good at playing me - which is convenient since attempts to be someone else were as unsuccessful later as they were back in High School.
I've used the word 'I' too much in this, but if you want to read about someone else, click their profile.
For those of you who were kind to me, I hope to see again. For those that weren't, consider yourself forgiven as I'm still so bad with names and faces that I probably won't recognize you anyways.
When it's time to go, I hope I'll be buried wearing 'groucho nose-glasses' and have the intense wrinkles of a man who spent his time smiling and looking to the horizon.
