Russell's Story

Life After finishing my undergraduate years, I taught school for a year, then I signed a contract to teach at a small start-up private school. After they reneged on the contract and decided to begin with grades K-6, I spent a few months hearing “You’re overqualified!” and “…not enough experience!”, then I returned to school, finishing my Master’s degree in July of ’88. I began working for the Air Force as a civilian Information Technology specialist in August of ’88, and I just finished my 18th year at Tinker Air Force Base in August of ’06. I spent the next few years getting involved in whatever I could find at work, church, and wherever else I found myself. It wasn’t until the fall of ’96 that I met Dawn here in the Oklahoma City area--a lady just over 2 months younger than I who, like myself, had remained single rather than "looking for love in all the wrong places", as the song goes. As it turned out, my sister was school librarian in the same small Kansas town (population less than 500) where Dawn’s grandparents lived. (What are the odds of that???) My sister had mentioned a maintenance man who loved to come in the library to give her a hard time, and who would that be other than Dawn’s UNCLE??? W...Expand for more
hen Dawn and I started planning on getting married, I mentioned the name of a guy I’d like to be in the wedding, and her reply was, “How do you know HIM??? His wife and I shared an apartment at Oklahoma Christian College!!!” As it turns out, most of the friends I knew outside of work from ’89 up to that time were people she knew while in college! We got married on the day most of you recall as the day the big news was the death of Princess Diana of Wales—August 30, 1997. Although I lamented being single on occasion, I can now honestly say I’m SOOO glad I was still single when she came along!!! Bailee Dawn woke us up in the wee hours of Mother’s Day of ’99, and she was born just before 10:00pm that night. Having no sons, the closest I could come to having a child with my name was when Quincee GRAce Marie came along in June of ’04. (My middle name is Grant.) Any man who thinks life isn’t complete until you have a son doesn’t know what he’s talking about!!! (I have Quincee on my lap as I’m typing this.) Life isn’t perfect…(With humans involved, what is???)…but the God we serve is!!! We live in Edmond, and we're finding it's a great place to live and raise a family.
