Russell's Story

My family returned to Hawaii in 1967. I transferred from Loyola High School to St. Louis High School in Honolulu. Then I attended the Virginia Military Institute, graduated in 1974 with a degree in biology, and was commissioned as an Army officer. Subsequently, I received a graduate degree at the University of Hawaii, School of Public Health in 1976, went on active duty in Texas, got married in 1977, served in the 172d Infantry Brigade in Alaska until 1981, then returned to the Army Reserve in Hawaii retiring in 1997. Department of Health from 1982 and retired in December 2010 as the Chief of the Indoor and Radiological Health Branch. Since then I've been fixing the house and restoring my yard from a weed farm to a very nice lawn. I have a married daughter in Chicago and another daughter in California. I'm always looking forward to my annual Alaska fishing trip, something I began seven years ago. It's a great place! Living in Hawaii is nice weather-wise but too congested and expensive. Perhaps one day I will move someplace where it's wide open and moving at a slower pace.
