Ruth's Story
Life
I went to Pratt; BS in Art Ed Â65; MS in Art Ed Â66 and married Michael J. Lowy in June 1966. IÂve taught Art mostly in northern California, a little in Pittsburgh PA; and created fine jewelry, free lance for about 10 years. In 1968-69, Mike and I lived in Ghana, West Africa working on his field research on dispute settlement for his Ph.D. in Anthropology from Berkeley. After a few years Âprofessing at U. of Pittsburgh, he had a post doc at Yale Law School and then went to Stanford Law School for a J.D. (We are/were an academic family Â
14 moves, the first 9 years.) In the mid 70Âs, the California Jarvis/Gann Prop 13 initiative put an end to my Art teaching. I started a second career in Âbusiness as an administrator with a small company, went back to school, took as-needed business courses, a few non-matric in an MBA program and lots of Âon-the-job-trai...Expand for more
ning. I worked in a small corporation for 10 years and advanced to Vice Pres/General Mgr. For the last 13 years, I have worked at Stanford University as an administrative manager in several departments of including the Department of History and currently in the Taube Center for Jewish Studies. ItÂs been pretty great. Mike has been practicing Family Law and teaching for the past 30 years in Palo Alto. We did finally settle down. Our daughter, Lisa was born in Pittsburg, PA in 1970 and is an attorney in SF; our son, Eric was born in Stanford, CA in 1974 and teaches Elementary School in SFÂs Mission District in a Spanish bi-lingual emersion program. They share a house in the Presido and are great pals. We and they have done a lot of traveling mostly in Europe, the USA and Canada. Eric who is bi-lingual has traveled and gone to school in Mexico and Spain and in S. America.
