Ruth's Story

Life How time flies when you are having fun... After graduating from Federal Way High School, I attended the University of Pacific in Stockton, CA. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Adminstration. During college, I was active in Delta Sigma Pi and Model United Nations. I spent another year of post-graduate work helping to organize Model UN conferences. My first "real" job involved working with contract administration at San Joaquin County (CA) Public Works from 1991-1995. After nearly ten years in California, I moved to Olympia, Washington, in 1995, and started the job that has evolved into my current position as Community Program Manager for Thurston County Human Resources. I staff several citizen boards and commissions, dealing with issues ranging from property assessment appeals to cultural diversity and human rights issues. I love my job, and am blessed to be able to put my core values into action every day. I am also thankful to be able to work closely with some of my dearest friends. In college, I worked at Maxwell's Bookmark. This experience propelled me into starting Northwest Passages Books and Collectibles in 1998. nd figurines. For a number of years, I sold at Twice Told Tales antique mall near the Poodle Dog Restaurant in Fife. I still sell at the annual sale at Packwood and on line. I am a high energy person. I enjoy travelling when I can, and my annual trips to the Gulf South for the Mardi Gras are a favorite past time. Other favorite places include Colorado, the Oregon Coast, and Northern California. I am still a sports fanatic and enjoy attending events and watching sports on tv when I am able. I am a voracious reader. My other hobbies include crafts, cultural events, wine tasting, and home canning bbq sauces, salsas, and condiments. I live in West Olympia. My parents still live in Federal Way. My Dad is terminally ill, so I live with my parents for part of the week to help out. My family is involved with a number of charitable activities, including the Federal Way Community Caregiving Network and assembling 500 Easter baskets for the South King County Multi-Service Center's food bank each year. I recently finalized an amicable divorce. I do not have children. I have one cat, Janus, who has been with me for thirteen years now. I look forward to reconnecting with friends that I have met along the journey. Cheers!
