Ryan "Chip"'s Story

Life Life After living in Sydney for 3 1/2 years, have recently moved to Melbourne, Australia, which is about a 10 hour drive or 1 hour 20 min flight from Sydney. I am loving Melbourne and actually think it's a better and more livable city than Sydney, though without the great beaches. It's more European in form and feel and it reminds me of the best of London, Barcelona and Paris, with wine bars, side streets with cafes and lots of cafe's. It's a very Food, culture and art driven city. Had a career change 5 years ago from consulting to attending Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School (Classical French), graduating in June 2006, having received the DUX award in basic cuisine and patisserie. I've loved living in Sydney. Living overseas has taught me allot and I've enjoyed the exposure to many differnent cultures, ideas, and food. I will be here for another 3 to 5 years and may end up settling here, though I think I'll probably move to San Francisco but also plan a short stint (a year or two) in Brussels, Belgium. I have been very fortunate the last 3 years of my life, which have been the best. I've had the great opportunity to travel more and see much of the world. Traveling is my 2nd or 3rd greatest passion. I love learning about and exploring new places. I've lived primarily in Dallas the past 6 years, prior to moving to Sydney and before that lived in Wichita Fall's for 10 years, 5 of which I was an Officer in the U.S.A.F., separating as a Captain in 1994. I moved to Dallas in 1998, to work on my MBA and work at EDS (Eletronic Data Systems' a multinational outsourcing and technology firm). I worked for EDS starting out as an Analyst, went thru their SED progam, was asked back as an student instructor and then acted as a programmer, before being selected to become a Project Manager. I left EDS after 3 3/4 years to move to Accenture (one of the big 4 multinational Consultant Firms) as Project Manager. I was only with Accenture for 1 1/2. I enjoyed working for the firm but they went public, I had a 3rd terrible manager on my project and decided I wanted a life change, so I quite, no job, no idea what to do but definitely happy and content with that decision. Work Overview- Thirteen years of project management - technology, IT and Telecom, business development, change management, systems analyst and supply chain and event management experience. Developed the market strategy and business plan for EDS’ healthcare physician and payer technology strategy. Managed the SBC Panasonic CF27 Toughbooks supply chain for deployment to over 25,000 SBC Technicians. Experience also includes merger of two regional hospitals, and 5 years active duty service in USAF. School Went to Frisco City High School - home of the Whippets. My dad was a head foodball coach, so we moved around allot. Moved to West Blocton my Junior Year in High School in 1982 and I graduted from Blocton in 1984, moving to Tuscaloosa to attend the Univeristy of Alabama and working at a Sporting Goods store in McFarland mall for 5 years to put my way thru college - undergrad. I graduated with my MBA in 2000, having moved to Dallas, TX in 1998. I am currently pursing a degree from Le Cordon Blue for the Grand Diplome' - Culinary and Patisserie - having visited Paris, Lyon and Provence several times, I discovered my passion for all things culinary. Upon completion of my initial culinary degree, I will purse a Master in Gastronomy from Melbourne, Australia.
