Ryan's Story

My Political Views:
- Government should usually not run businesses unless they are necessities
- Government handouts should be regulated better or not given out at all
- The rich need to pay more taxes, at least just a few % more
- There should be no minimum wage, it should be based on the demand for work, people looking for work should always be able to get it easily
- Grant amnesty to illegal immigrants so that they start paying income taxes
- Regulate banks and corporations better
- Protect federal and state funding for Education
- Create more cost-effective education policies, for example, bigger classrooms
- Reduce funding for the military
- Start paying off the deficit, stop deficit spending
- Abstain from war unless our own country is under REAL threat
- Legalize marijuana and make the age 18
- Make the drinking age 18
- Take all religion out of the school system, unless it is in a class where you learn about certain religions
- Legalize gay marriage, just because you don't support gay marriage does not mean you should prevent others with different beliefs to choose their own same-sex marriage
- I am all for contraceptives, republicans and democrats should ALL support it, it reduces teen pregnancy, and prevents abortions
- Pro-Universal Healthcare, healthcare is a necessity, not a luxury
- Subsidies for healthy food so that it is...Expand for more
actually cheaper than unhealthy alternatives
- Lower costs of prison, we spend more on our prisons than our education system!
- Global warming exists but at a very slow rate, focusing on fixing global warming is foolish as long as we drive cars, however pollution should be minimized
- Improve gun regulations, make sure criminals or the mentally insane do not have gun access, also make sure every firearm owner is educated in how to use a gun properly
- Enforce background checks at gun shows by making it mandatory, currently there is a loophole that private dealers do not need to do a background check, and 30% of criminals getting guns get them from gun shows!
- I am against affirmative action, whites are now prevented from getting jobs that they are better at, just give the more qualified candidate the job, eliminate racial quotas
- I am only against the death penalty because it costs too much, but morally I think it is ok to execute those who murder multiple people, I would only be for the death penalty if there was a limit to 1 or 2 appeals
- Do not subsidize big oil companies, and other companies which need no subsidies due to the fact that they sell necessities in which demand is inelastic
- Do not drug test those on welfare, simply because it is inefficient economically to do so. I do believe however those on drugs shouldn't be allowed on welfare, but it costs more to test for those on drugs than you make from denying people welfare money.
- Prisons and necessities in general should not be private. This encourages corruption caused by greed. It is fine if you deny someone a luxury, but not fine if you deny them a necessity just so that you can make more money. It sets up a wrong incentive structure also that encourages misconduct (such as imprisoning innocent people) in order to make a buck.
- I generally do not like labor unions, especially ones that force you to join and/or take money out of your paycheck to go to union dues that don't represent the union, but a certain politician instead. Labor unions want higher wages and more jobs, this is contradictory and therefore creates less jobs because of more waste. Why should we pay people more than what they are willing to work for? Why should we give people jobs that don't benefit society in any way?".
