Rymond Winkler:  

Life I was born (1925) and raised in St. Louis. My family lived in the north St. Louis area. I attended Elliot grammar school and graduated in 1938. I then wen to Central High School and graduated in January, 1942. I worked for about two years and then entered Washington University on a half tuition scholarship (then worth $125 per year). I completed my freshman year in Chemical Engineering and then enlisted in the Navy V-12 program. They sent me to Illinois Institute of Technology (Chicago) and I received my B.S. in October 1945. I was commisioned an Ensign and sent out to Guam shere I was the personnel office in the Navy Supply Depot. I was disccharged from the Navy in the summer of 1946. I remained in St.Louis, living with my family, and entered Washington U. graduate school. In 1947 I received my M.S. in Chemical Engineering and in 1951, my Ph. D. I went to work for what was then Standard Oil of New Jersey (now ExxonMobil) in their research affiliate in Linden, N. J. While there, I met Jean Peterson and we were married in 1953. Shortly after that I transferred from research to the corporate headquarters in New York.
