Ryn's Story

Life Okay, okay…since I’ve been asked to, I guess I’ll write it. So, what the heck do you write for a bio?? Some superficial, embellished jargon about “me?” I hope not…... I'm Ryn (Turner) Spiegelhauer. I've been Spiegelhauer for 19 years now. Yes, Walt and I have been married that long, and yes, that’s a “miracle” in itself. Though, we’ve tried to get rid of each other at different times in our marriage (no hit men were actually hired), we have always seemed to find our way back to one another. Walt has helped me learn about the deeper meaning of what it is to “love.” Through our trials (and there have been many), I’ve grown to have a very deep respect for this man I call husband and whom my children call "Dad." I can post some pictures on my “profile” and you might see us as this beautiful family of 4 (of course you might not), but there is always a deeper story behind the “pose” as there is for all families. And I would love to hear some of your stories. So, out of high school I went to Texas Tech, met Walt and married him the first year I was there. We both went to school and worked several different jobs and needless to say, it was pretty “insane!” By my fourth year of school (with 2 semesters left to graduate), I had decided that “divorce” was the only answer to fix this mess of a relationship that I’d helped create and I started proceedings on that. Long story short….Fall of 91’ Walt came back to Lubbock to reclaim me as his bride, I dropped out of school and took a needed break and went to work in banking in Houston. Brityn arrived the following year…then Cody soon after. I was in banking for 13 years at different locations in the Houston and Dallas area. I’ve been in operations and management and have tried over the last few years to weed myself out by going part time as a teller, but once you’ve been in any management level, you can not go p/t mentally and it seemed I stayed “on call” even with a part time salary, so….in Aug ...Expand for more
of 2004, I took a leave of absence for 6 months…. for a nice break. I planned on returning in January of 2005 and right before I finalized my plans, my Dad was in a mountain bike accident, Jan. 27th, 2005 and broke his neck. My brother, Rone, saved him out in the middle of the woods in Grapevine keeping him alive until Life Flight arrived. He had the same fracture (C1 and C2 fracture) that Christopher Reeve suffered, immediately paralyzing his body and his pulmonary function. It’s another miraculous story that’s happening even as I write this. My Dad has been surviving now (against the doctors advice or expectations) in and out of ICU’s and nursing homes for over a year now. So, since all of this, I never went back to work and now that my Dad is somewhat “stable” and I’ve taken some time to breath…I’ll have to say, it’s been kind of nice “not working.” Mostly, I try to function however I MAKE-UP that a Mom is “supposed” to function (which doesn’t help me a whole lot). I run kids around to school, practice, and friend’s houses…I even sometimes feed them. They are athletic and smart and wonderful kids of course….and extremely normal too (therefore, they don’t always appreciate me being their mother the way they should –Ha). I’ve gone back to school (instead of work) since my Dad’s become more “stable” and I could actually finish my degree within a year. We’ll see how that goes.... So, I plan on showing up to the reunion. I’ve gained a little weight (esp since my Dad’s accident)….probably 20 lbs since High School. I probably look like I’ve had a few kids. I can still look half way attractive if I take time to put make-up on. I’m still athletic, just a little softer than I used to be. I’ve had no plastic surgery, but think of it sometimes when I’m feeling “incomplete.” Anyway, I hope everyone shows up to the reunion whether they’re feeling "glamorous" or not. I’d love to see your faces and hear your stories. Thanks for visiting...
