Sally's Story

Life My Spouse: We met in the theater! We both pursued acting in area theaters. My Pets: For many years, I had Nick and Alex - twin black cats - they were with us nearly 18 years! Both are gone now, but were a big part of our family. We then had an adorable labradoodle named Pepper for 11 years — she was smart, funny, loyal, and the best companion. Sadly Pepper passed in 2022, so now we lavish our attention on our daughter’s cat, Asher. My Kids: Our son Drew was born in 1996, and our daughter Cameron in 2000. My Job: I was a litigation administrator for six years, and then I taught at Whitmer High School, in the English Department for six years, focusing on Drama, Humanities, and English 9 Honors. I loved it, but resigned at the end of 2002 school year to work from home and be with my two children. I did consulting, writing, editing, my Mary Kay business, and voice-over work mostly from home. AND we moved across the country to California in 2003!! I worked as the Director of Communications and Creative Arts Coordinator for our church in Sacramento, and LOVED that job! When we moved to Fresno/Clovis in 2014, it was time to return to teaching. I am once again a high school teacher at an amazing school, loving that I’m back in the classroom and pouring into the lives of hundreds of students each year. School I loved Stranahan Elementary, where I remember most being involved in a newsletter of some kind, and doing some performing work (narration, mostly) in class productions. I also loved serving as a helper in one of the 2nd grader classes when I was in 6th grade. Junior High - McCord Jr High. What a huge time of change. Pr...Expand for more
obably the best part was getting my braces off. Phew! Southview High School - started out being the shy wall flower, and ended up on the Speech Team and News Editor on the paper. Loved all the activities, especially the paper, CougaReview, plays, two years spent on the track team, and especially the Speech Team. I even went back years later to coach that team! College In a nutshell: went to Miami of Ohio YEY and loved it there. Pledged AOPi and it was great. The most wonderful year was the one I spent in the Luxembourg program studying overseas - awesome classes, and awesome people. After graduating from there, went on to get my Masters in Publishing from Stirling University in Scotland, and then did more graduate work at the University of Toledo a few years later. Workplace After grad school in Scotland (1987), I taught at Southview HS as a permanent sub for a year, then moved into Litigation Management for O-I for six years. After that, I returned to my love for teaching and went back to grad school...again...and taught at UT, and at Whitmer High for six years. I really loved teaching English, Drama and Humanities there! I decided to work from home in 2002, so that I can take care of our children, so I did consulting work and ran my Mary Kay business while being full-time mom. :-) Since our move to California in 2003, I served as the Director of Communications and Creative Arts Coordinator for our church staff in Sacramento for eight years, and I have been a high school teacher for the past several years since moving to the Fresno/Clovis area. I now teach junior (11th grade) English and AP Language & Composition. I love it!
