Sally's Story
Life
My life is the real reality TV show..Survivor could be the title
Married 44 years to the same great guy. We have 3 sons (Bishop Moore Grads)
who went through college, graduate school and most of our savings, then went forth and multiplied. We now have 6 beautiful grand babies who all are the light of our lives. They all live here.
My husband Bob was a graduate of the first UCF class (then FTU) and after 31 years later, he returned to college and started a new career in Nuclear Medicine!! If he can repeat college algebra, chemistry and statistics at age 55 anything is possible for me.
I have lost most of my vision so I am brailling my way through life at a good pace! As a family we have done so much and traveled to many places. Every day is an adventure with this family. Our careers were rewarding and living life to the fullest has been our ministry. Looking forward to the next 50 some odd years!!
I am in my first year post cancer and doing well. Life is certainly a gift
School
mrs McCann in Algebra was the most inspiring for me. She helped me take my Algebra grade from a D- to an A and then I did not have to take the fianl exam. She gave me the confidence I needed to finally get through Algebra. (never used it from then on) She never gave up on me.
I remember Mr Trubys Biology and those wretched experiments we did with fruit flies.
I desperately tried to find my own unique place at Bishop Moore and sandwiched between 5 siblings and strict Catholic parents, a boys school and a girls school and skirt hems that had to touch the ground , I am amazed I emerged without more psychological impairments .
College
Completed nursing school at Tampa University with the Tampa General Hospital Nursing School. Viet Nam, Civil rights all sorts of global unrest clouded these young adult years. My brother, a BM graduate (67) was in Vietnam during this time and for the first time in my life I became face to face with an adult world realizing each year the war continued was another year my brother or husband could be taken from my life. I Proceeded through Florida Southern U...Expand for more
niversity and Florida hospital College of Health Sciences. My major was nursing.
Workplace
From serving every type of ice cream treat and fresh chocolate candies to nursing assistant to registered nurse to critical care nurse..It was a great adventure of work. My favorite work was in the open heart units (CVICU) and critical care. I worked in charge of these units in various hospital for 35 years. I organized a women s investment club and worked at a securities firm as a side interest. It was fun and profitable. We had a great time in our investment club as we learned and earned. My nurse colleague family was the best group of friends ever. What a great ride that was.
I also worked at the healthcare Center for the Homeless in Orlando and became instrumental in developing the first non for profit assisted living center in Central Florida (Pathways to Care) for indigent and uninsured patients with acute recuperative needs. That was an interesting challenge.
father Bluett and St Stephens Parish were the foundation of support for this endeavor. The ALF is now under the direction of Catholic Charities.
I have lost most of my vision, fell broke my leg and was in a wheelchair for 7 months. In that time I learned patience. I stopped driving and had to give up my hospital career. When our children went forth and multiplied ,Bob and I became very involved as caregivers to our little blessings. I cared for my ailing father and our little ones. If it wasnt Barney, Sesame Street or Noggin and baby Einstein..I was quite out of touch with the adult world.
My family stretches from California to Florida and to the Northeast. Our bucket list is to travel everywhere and we have accomplished the USA and part of Europe. Thank goodness my husband and I are best friends because all the travel and life adventures make it so much better.
I do not care how my friends remember me.... I just want to be remembered!! I very much dislike looking through these classmates and yearbooks and finding names I cannot remember.....I want to remember everyone!! Life is so short we need to embrace it all.
