Sally's Story

Until he passed away in 2003, I was married for almost 40 years to Tex Rogers, a newspaper/magazine editor and publisher. I have two sons, Nick and Travis. Nick is a musician and freelance journalist and Travis is a bilingual pre-k and kindergarten teacher. Between them, I have five grandsons and a granddaughter, all of whom I do my best to spoil rotten. I worked primarily for my husband, first in layout and design, later as copy editor and columnist. I have also worked for Head Start, for a psychotherapist, for our county's senior citizens' program, and as a yoga teacher. At times, stressed and humorless from my work in Matters of Great Importance to the Community, I worked as a waitress and read nothing but Jackie Collins novels. I made more money as a waitress and learned more from Jackie Collins than I earned or learned in any of my other jobs. I'm currently retired. I like it because I can take a nap. At this time, I'm ambiguous regarding religious matters, and enjoy volunteer work, especially in the areas of homelessness and animal rescue. I'm a rabid reader and live in a small cottage across from a beautiful park. I share bed and board with two (like...Expand for more
me) aging dogs and an ongoing cycle in/cycle out parade of grandchildren. My greatest achievement was stopping smoking, which I did by spending three days eating crunchy granola and watching "Hope Floats" over and over. Don't laugh - it worked. I feel I have lived long enough, and survived enough, to know that I've nothing left to fear, save blind faith and urinary incontinence. My Q&A fairly well covered the things I like, except for chocolate, Jimmy Dale Gilmore's version of "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" and anything written by Eric Taylor or Leonard Cohen. However, I feel we're sometimes best defined by what we don't like. So: I do not like tv, and blue eyeshadow sets my teeth on edge. I hate what our society is doing to our children. They should be playing hopscotch, not "Warcraft." I abhor injustice, I'm prejudiced against prejudice, nor do I understand cruelty in any form. The only good thing I can say about irresponsible pet owners is that they're the reason I have my beloved critters. I don't like to cook and I detest cleaning house. I do both however, to avoid starving to death in squalor. If you're reading this, thank you for your interest.
