Sam's Story
I used to live at 4th and Oakdale in Windermere. I went to Kindergarten at the church up the street. I used to go to the "old" Windermere Elementary that had outdoor breezeways and was rather old and funky. I had Mrs. Cope for a first grade teacher, Mrs. Rogers for second, Mrs. Dicelgie for third, Mrs. Rumpf for fourth, and Mrs. McKinney for fifth, then we moved away.
My friends were Bradley Atherton (who hasn't contacted me yet) Tommy Lamb, Arthur Watson, Jan Skjersaa (who also hasn't contacted me) Mike Frye (whose mom was also Cub Scout den mother), and I had a crush on Betsy Tucker. I see a few names I remember from school but unfortunately, I can't remember the people. I remember that I liked going over to Tommy Lamb's because he had a "Thing Maker" with Creepy Crawlers, my favorite. His dad owned Lamb Chevrolet on Colonial Drive.
I remember riding my bike to the new school when it was built, and one day a sink hole opened up and took out most of the house that it was by. Fascinating to little kids, really, but probably not to the owner.

te of Lake Down where I used to play & fish. I think one of our neighbors worked in the office at school, Mrs. Groundland.
I liked going to the Windermere Library and read every Hardy Boys/Tom Swift/and yes, even Nancy Drew book they had. The town hall was almost right next door & I remember going there to see movies on weekends sometimes...the only one I can remember is Jerry Lewis in "Cinderfella", which I wouldn't be caught dead watching now, but I think I liked it fine then.
I remember going on a tour of the Merita Bread Factory in Orlando and I think we went on some other field trips too, but can't remember exactly where, although I seem to remember we went to the jail?
I liked going to Johnny's Country Store, next to the post office, because I liked to look at the comics & sometimes I even went there to pick up burgers for the family for dinner. I can still remember the way the place smelled....frying burgers and cigarette smoke....yecch....Mr. Green that worked there was one of our close neighbors, he was usually at the front register.
Any of this bring back memories or ring a bell to anyone?
