Samantha's Story

Life After High School I moved to Illinois, in Chicago's South Suburbs. I have a son, step son and step daughter and I am happily married. I've worked many differant types of jobs over the years, but in 2000 I decided to persue my dreams and interests. To learn more about what I've been up to lately, (I've been VERY busy!) go to my websites (google me, Samantha Brent, or check my bulletins for the website names), check 'em out, leave me a message there or email me and we can catch up. :) Oh yeah, by the way, I'm a Lyricist now, and I'm starting to make some headway! I'd be tickled to hear from you. Drop me a note sometime. Take care! ~Sammi/Samantha (Watts) Brent Workplace My first job was a waitressing job at 13 yrs old, at a place very close to my parent's home. Through high school I worked as a waitress at a couple of places, worked at a Tastee Freez for two summers and a home for the elderly for almost three years, for two summers I was working at the Tastee Freez and the home for the elderly at the same time. After graduating high school, I lived with David Anderson, we moved to Illinois the summer of 1990 and while we were saving up for our wedding, we were joyously surprised with our baby boy at the end of 1991, a little while later in 1992 we got married. In 1995 David and I got divorced, and in 1998 I married my husband Chris & his two children and my life started over again, for the better! Over the years since high school I had some factory jobs, a couple of retail jobs, a couple of bookkeeping jobs, and my last "job" was for a manufacturing company, in the Marketing Dept. Out of all my jobs, I loved the last job, and I was very good at it, but economical cuts in the company were threatening my job, and I had the opportunity to begin "working" for myself, so I quit! Since then I have been writing lyrics. It's something I enjoy immensely and have been involved with it all my life as a hobby, now it is my CAREER and I don't have a JOB. I work, but I WORK for myself, and although it gets intense sometimes keeping up with all of the business aspects of it myself, (promoting, networking, webmaster, the list goes on and on).. I still LOVE it!! My husband has to litterally pull me away from it at times when I've really been 'working' too hard! Basically my working life started out with li...Expand for more
ttle or no direction or encouragement, I just worked to survive. The things I was really interested in doing were numerous, but I wasn't sure what direction to go, which career choice would be best for me. I had once aspired to be a Lawyer (prosecutor) or Psychologist, however I didn't have the financial resources. The other things I wanted to be were a successful graphic design artist or fine art artist and a writer (lyrics and poems), however at the time I didn't have the means or the time to dedicate myself to those areas of a career, and I didn't have the vision yet of how to go about using my skills to create my own business. I was basically working to survive, and being a young wife with a baby that I absolutely adored, so my dreams were put to the back of my head, and I did what I needed to do at the time. In 2000 everything changed, financially, my family no longer needed me to 'work' to survive, we were fine with just my husband's income and my husband and friends were pushing me to take my lyric writing and my artistic skills more seriously. So, I quit my job that was eventually going to whither away anyway...and I dove into a year or so of INTENSE do-it-myself-study of different lyric writing techniques, forms, copyright law, the music industry, songwriters, success stories of songwriters, the business end of a career in songwriting,..etc. ANYTHING and EVERYTHING I could get my hands on through my library(and/or surrounding libraries), book stores, the internet...you name it. I was reading constantly, about 200-300 pages a day at minimum in my spare time. Within months I had exhausted my local resources on the above topics, I basically had put myself through the do-it-yourself version of college for writing lyrics, and then I began writing more lyrics and getting them copyrighted. I started getting them reviewed by top songwriters in Nashville, and I used their input to improve what needed improving. Then I started entering contests, and started my website.....and so on. Right now I'm in the process of doing some co-writing and getting music put to my lyrics for rough demos. Step by Step! I have to say, without my husband (2nd & final) encouraging and supporting me, I couldn't have done ANY of this! (Baby you're the GREATEST!) I'm already wealthy just by having you, and I know i'm very lucky!:)
