Samith's Story

Workplace Vita - Samith Hill I began my Law Enforcement Career in November 1969 when I was accepted into the Fort Worth Police Academy. After graduation from the police academy I was assigned as a patrol officer honing and learning my skills as a law enforcement officer. In 1974 my career path moved to the Crime Prevention arena. I was assigned to a pilot program (Neighborhood Crime Prevention Team) in the Stop Six area. The focus was not necessarily on making arrest and issuing tickets, although that was a part. It was more focused on problem solving and prevention of crime. I worked in that area until 1976 when I was promoted to Sergeant. I was only the second black officer in Fort Worth to have obtained that rank. As Sergeant I was assigned to Field Operations (Patrol Division) and supervised officers on a daily basis that patrolled the streets of Fort Worth. I was later drafted to work in the Internal Affairs Division. My assignment was to investigate allegations of wrong doings made against Fort Worth Police Officers and employees of the City of Fort Worth. I worked cases from minor violations to some of the more serious offenses. I represented the City in Washington D.C. in EEOC complaints. In 1980 I was transferred to a Division within the Department called Management Support. My task was to audit various sections of the police department to ensure that there was compliance to departmental policies. From there I became the Public information Officer with the primary responsibility of keeping the various media abreast of newsworthy events within the police department. Later in the ‘80's I starter the first Crime Stopper program in Tarrant County. We received many tips and took several dangerous people off the streets. I also worked in the Records Division where I supervised the offense reporting section. In 1987 I was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. I was the first black officer t...Expand for more
o have obtained that rank. I worked as the Commander of the East Division. In 1989 I attended the FBI National Academy and in 1990 I was promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief with a command of about half of the Fort Worth Police Department. After 26.5 years I retired from the Fort Worth Police Department in January of 1997. I was off some 22 months and received a call in September 1998 to become Chief of the Forest Hill Police Department where I am currently employed. I am a member of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), International Association of Chiefs of Police and many other law enforcement and civic organizations. I am married to the former Ms Wanda Price and have two children with six grandchildren. My biggest accomplishment is that I have known the Lord Jesus Christ since 1957. I am currently a member of the Mayfield Missionary Baptist Church, where I serve among other things as a Deacon and an Usher. I also, work in the Finance Committee and serve as a Trustee. I am presently the chair of the pastoral search committee where we are allowing the Holy Spirit to lead us to a Pastor. Update... Since I last completed this bio, we have hired a new pastor, Rev Larry Hall. A most dynamic speaker. I want to extend an invitation to any and all who read this bio. I am also working on the long range planning committee and still at the present time working at Forest Hill. However, I am now 59 yrs and I am looking forwarded again for that day when I can finally sit down. Its nice to have two retirements. The LORD is good... As of July 8, 2004 I was appointed as Acting City Manager of the City of Forest Hill. The LORD is Good!!!!! November 2006 I finally retired the second time. At the present time I'm living the life of Riley. That is I decide when I wake up what I'm going to do. Example: I been invited to play golf and was there within 30 minutes of the invitation.
