Sandi's Story

Life I am finally, happily married to Marcus Vest from London Ohio. We purchased an beautiful old farm house in town which we have been remodeling. We have a blended family with 4 children, Brandon-15, Katie 13, Paige 12 & Zackery 4 plus our choclate lab Coral. There is never a dull moment in the Vest house hold. Marcus & I have a few saltwater fishtanks in our home that has became the family hobby. College As much as I hated going to school I never though I would graduate form College but I saw the light in 2001 & realized if I wanted to go anywhere I needed to have that piece of paper to back my credentials. I enrolled in Columbus State & was going full time & working full time but I completed a year for all my pre-requisites for Nursing. I deployed shortly after that & after working with all the wounded soldiers it deeply affected me. When I returned home the kids were getting so involved with after school activities I decided to switch my Major. I finally received my Associates in Criminal Justice & a major in Juvenile Corrections. I also finished up my Associates in Applied Health Sciences from the Community College of the Air Force. I am taking a break right now but plan to start back up in the Emergency Management field in the future. Workplace I was a Correction Officer & then a Sergeant at ORW. I met the love of my life in prison... My husband Marcus, he is a plumber at ORW. I finally left the Department of Rehabilitation & Corrections after 10 long years. I Transferred to the Department of Health in January of 2007 where I am now a Planner for Bureau of Public Health Preparedness. Our Planning Unit is very new & it keeps me v...Expand for more
ery busy, It was a big risk giving up everything I was comfortable with & the job security not to mention was a huge change of pace so I am taking one day at a time who knows where this path this will take me… Military I enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserve in July of 1998. Hard to believe with my track record from Lima Senior I was the Honor Graduate from boot camp. This was the first step in a long line of Military accomplishments. I have had a distinguished career in the Air Force Reserves ever since. I am currently an Aeromedical Evacuation Technician Flight Instructor at the 445th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton Ohio. I was promoted to Master Sergeant November 2007 & selected to be the Non Commissioned Officer in Charge of Air Crew Training. I have had numerous state side & over sea’s deployments. I also deployed twice for Operation Iraqi Freedom & Operation Enduring Freedom. I was stationed at Qatar in 2003 flying all over the AOR for Med Evac Missions Ramstien Germany in 2005 flying down range & stateside Med Evac Missions. I am still currently very active in the Reserves, my husband Marcus has been a wonderful support to me in all my deployments keeping the house in order & our children stable, I could not have done it all without him. I have been a few high profile missions that were on CNN & some local news stations. My last one was down to Hurricane Katrina doing Med Evac’s out of New Orleans International. I am still an active flyer but am leaning more towards the role of a traditional reservists as my children are getting much more active in school sports & life in general.
