Sandi's Story
After high school I went to MBC (Medical Business College) to pursue a career in dental assisting. After having worked for a dentist for a year I decided it just wasn't my "thang". I then tried going to HCC but because I thought having fun with friends was so much better I quit after a year. In 1993 I decided to join the Air Force so I could travel and have them pay for school. Eglin AFB, Fl was my first duty station. I served in the military for 4 years (I was an Information Mngmnt Journeyman) and it was in my first year at Eglin that I met the "man of my dreams", my husband, Tony. We've been married for 14 years now and have 2 boys, 13 and 10. My husband is in the Air Force, he is currently the Assistant Flight Chief for the 31st AMXS squadron and has been serving our country for over 16 years. being a Mother and being home with my sons was more important than anything else in the world. It was after Alex turned 6 months that I decided to open up my home for childcare through the military and to have the luxury of being home with both of my boys and make money. I did childcare at Eglin for 9 years, obtained my CDA, got nationally Accredited and was chosen as Provider of the Year in 2004. We lived at Eglin for 12 years until we got orders to move to Arizona which we were very unhappy about but we had no choice because you have to go where the Air Force sends you :) We were bummed but got over it quickly after having met some of the most wonderful people at that base. We are currently residing at Aviano AB, Italy and will be here until 2011. We are hoping to return to Eglin as it is an outstanding base not to mention it's only 8hrs from my family. I'm lookin forward to reconnecting with old friends ~
